Gooday Gaz,
looks like the cape is as bad as George St Sydney, or St Kilda Rd in Melbourne... lol... (: You should have put your hand out for a toll, you would have made a mint... lol...

Yeah got busy in places - The video probably shows it at its worst. Sometimes we went an hour without seeing anyone.

Great video - you have just given me an excuse to go and grab a cuppa and a bikkie so that I can watch them again!

Question - on the main track up Cape York how far do people tow their vans? I am not talking your top of the range Kedrons, Bushtrackers and the like - I am talking more your off highway, dirt roaders with higher clearance? Eg. the Coromal Pioneer Corvair poptops, Jayco off roaders etc.

Cheers
Sue

We saw vans left at Moreton Telegraph Station. Which is pretty close (relatively speaking) to the tip. You could leave a van there and travel to Bamaga (Stay the night) go to the tip and back to Bamaga then back to Moreton TS the following day. Although I don't think I would take a half decent van that far. I'd leave my van in Cairns or Cook town and travel with tent to the tip. But I have to say ta camper trailer or off road van would be the best.

G'day gaz,

Did you tackle the OTL at all, and if so do you have any video or trip reports for that section?

Nice editing by the way!

Regards
Evan

Thanks Evan,

No we didn't have time to do the OTL - met guys who did - no reports of any trouble.

Great video.

The roads shown looked fairly good - was that typical?
So it would be OK to take an offroad caravan all the way then but reckon your advice of leaving it as you said would be best.

Richard

I would take a good off road van up there no probs. But I wouldn't take a normal van or one that was just a raised normal van called "off road". We have a Aussie Swag Camper trailer which is made for stuff worse than this trip. (For sale BTW).

Just as I remember it from around the same time last year - convoys of camper trailers.
Bet the road doesn't look like that right now.
