Cape York Feedback

G'day
We're going to Cape York leaving Sydney in May. We will be towing a Kedron TopEnder caravan with a VW Touareg. We don't have a snorkel on the Touareg. Both car & caravan can do a 0.5m depth without the snorkel. We will be taking the easy routes in all places, ie all the bypass roads.

We are hopeful that we can get into Chilli Beach with the van.

Will we need a snorkel on the Touareg?

Any advise on the Kedron?

Cheers
Alan

We did The Cape trip last year, although we didn't tow our Kedron. We went up via the Old Telegraph Track.

If you stick to the bypass roads you should have no trouble at all. We were there at the end of May and there were graders everywhere smoothing the roads. They were quite wide, although the last part of the road into Chili Beach itself got a little narrow, but nothing the Kedron couldn't handle.

Unless there's been a huge wet before you go, you shouldn't need a snorkel for that part of the trip. Perhaps take a water blind just in case though.

You don't need to be prepared for water (snorkel) if you do the bypass roads, the only real water crossing is on the OTL

What you need to be prepared for is corrugations that will shake everything that it can loose

We were up there in Jun / Jul last year.

You should have no worries sticking to the main roads.

Your van will need good clearance for some of the dips but for the most part you will just be having great fun.

Check out the link on my profile to my blog of our trip. There's photo's and videos there.

Chili beach is an easy run on the main road in. Nice spot.

Enjoy
