I bought a VMS and was disappointed when we took it off road, seemd to be very slow in picking up turn offs.
I have since learnt that I had the wrong datum , AGD 66 configured and have swapped it to WGS84 (World Geocentric System 1984) as apparently thats what GPS's work off. And it worked perfectly during recent trip through
Vic High Country.
There is an option in the VMS to change datums, could be the same in Magellan

Too right, Wayne,
According to the 'bible' on GPS navigation, the datum setting is the 2nd thing to
check, after first making sure you have a 3D fix.
The difference between a point in AGD66 & WGS84 averages approx. 200 metres, depending on where in the country you are.
The 'bible' I refer to is 'GPS vehicle navigation in Australia' by Robert Pepper, available in the
shop here, (and other
places).
Cheers, Dave

Yep you are right they are a piece of crap. Brought it from GPZ Oz in
Sydney. We went into the bush and it kept freezing all the time, none of the tracks were named, and it was so slow. GPS Oz were great with trying to fix it for us, and in the end I told them what they could do with it. For $1200 I expected better. Anyway, without any hesitation, they swapped it for a brand new Magellan XPlor, and we are really happy with it. I know of others who have got rid of their Crossover too, and you dont see them around much. I think word as got out about them.
