"Police are cracking down on adventurers who take unnecessary risks in Sydney's Blue Mountains because they say a spate of rescues is putting officers at danger."

Seems fair enough to me. Often volunteers are the ones taking risks to rescue someone who thought it would never happen to them.

g'day all,
You can't blame the boys in blue and ses volunteers for getting sick of having to go in looking for these clown's, i heard a program on the radio recently, when one of the police officers from that region said no one comes and borrows the locator beacons they have on hand at the police station for free use. If people would just pick one up ,just to be on the safe side instead of thinking it wont happen to me , at least they could be found quickly if they did get off the beaten track.Being prepared seems to be the winner on any trip from the Canning and Cape to a stroll through the bush.
Cheers.

Can hear the cries of the liberty types, decrying the crack down.
OK, so one may believe we are in a free world, BUT does that mean we be selfish for our own ambitions.
So if one ignores the safety signs, what ever & gets stuck or worse, then one should be prepared to pay the FULL cost of any rescue efforts including the medicals for others if rescuers get injured.
It is great to be out & about exploring and stretching boundaries, but with rights etc comes responsibilities too!
...... Orf me soap box now and taken me medications!

And how many times have we seen TV stations showing "Beached Closed" news items and in the background there are at least a dozen surf-board riders.

If they can't be fined, why should they expect rescue units to help them when in trouble, let'em drown, stupid idiots. Harsh but fair, why is it that the three ppl in the mountains were fined for going into a restricted area but never the board riders.

For sure bill em I reckon. Like a lot of other issues at the moment we have more idiots than normal folk these days. I cant understand swimming in flood waters where do these people think the snakes have gone let alone drowning. Even walking through them, on the news last night one woman complaining about sewage and she is walking through it. How dumb is that.

I hate to see more restrictions however its obvious a lot of people have visited Anaconda, have bit of climb and think their right to go, the reality is it's dangerous sport even for the experienced.
