Question relating to Post ID 2470 (posted 26/11/02 by BB)

Did you ever sort out the vibration in the gearbox from idle to 1200 rev's - if you did, what did you do?
I have a similar problem in my 91 GQ diesel.

Thanks

you wont get rid of the vibration as its a trait of 4.2 diesal GQ, the motor is being laboured which causes the vibration just give it a touch more throttle and it goes, all 4.2 do it, i solved 95% of the problem by fitting a super charger which gives more low down torgue but this is an exspensive way to solve a problem which will do no harm to youyr vehicle, mine has done 260,000ks and had no drive line problems. Try taking a similar vehicle from a car yard for a test drive and compare. Col

HI,
LIVING IN OUTBACK QLD I'VE HAD 3 4.2D GQ'S AND 1 GU 4.2D AND ALL OF THEM HAD THE VIBRATION AFTER ABOUT 80000 KM. THE PRESSURE PLATE ON THE FLYWHEEL WAS UNBALANCED FROM A MIXTURE OF BULLDUST, CLUTCH DUST AND WATER BUILDING UP IN BETWEEN THE COVER AND THE DIAPHRAGM SPRING. THIS EVEN CREATED A NO DRIVE SITUATION ON ONE GQ CUTTING ACROSS FROM BEDOURIE THROUGH THE DIMANTINA LAKES NP AFTER 11 INCHES OF RAIN. THE DIAPHRAGM SPRING COULD NOT RETURN PROPERLY TO APPLY ADEQUATE PRESSURE TO THE CLUTCH PLATE. ALL I DO NOW WHEN I GET THE VIBRATION IS REMOVE THE BOOT WHERE THE CLUTCH RELEASE ARM GOES THROUGH THE BELLHOUSING AND UP IT WITH THE HOSE WHILST SOMEBODY CYCLES THE CLUTCH.
