I have a 800w Gmc that won't run, any one got any tips?
It will fire but dies after a second or two, I'm thinking fuel problem.
I have had a look at it and can't find any thing wrong with it. It has fuel, carby looks clean and has decent spark.
The fuel is a little old but runs fine in the mower and whipper snipper.

Hi outsider, First try fitting a new spark plug, found if you dont run them with a reasonable load the plug seems to give trouble. Local plug types areW8DC Bosch or BP6ES NGK.

I have tried a new plug no difference, Just had another go at starting it. It will fire almost every time, runs for a second or two and sound like it is going to keep going then just stops ?

Bit hard to say outsider, normaly a carby bowl full of fuel will run them for quite awhile, perhaps the CDI module is breaking down????? I keep acouple of the Jaycar CDI kits handy for cheking generators & outboards when a CDI unit is suspect. Its certainly cheeper than using the Manufacturers units & the components used are fairly robust. Daryl

Outsider, drain carby and remove and clean/ream the main jet with fuse wire,
mine was the same ,it would hunt but not run cleanly, the job is easy and should fix the problem for you, small engines need clean fuel.

With 2stroke fuel, the petrol evaporates over time, leaving a mix that is too oil rich. The oil rich fuel will not flow properly in the carby because it is too thick. That is why it will start but not keep running.

G'day outsider, there may be an easy start decompression device staying open once the engine has started. Happy Days.

Hi Farmboywa, There is no easy start decompression on these generators. The CDI unit is what fires the ign coil on nearly every outboard motor, generator & motor bike. There is a highvoltage winding for the unit powered from the flywheel & there is a triger coil which tels it when to fire the ign coil, that is a very basic description, It is usualy just a black box with 4or5 wires coming out of it. un fortunately i cant post pictures here.
