Looking to see if anyone has any information on this particular track. Heading that way in August this year towing an alloy off road camper with 4.2GU Nissan Ute. Amongst other tracks looking at possibility of going south on
Finke River Rd from
Hermannsburg to Ernest Giles Rd via
Boggy Hole. Some sites say its a hard slog others not so bad. We all have different
views of degrees of difficulty. We are experienced in sand travel with full recovery gear. Done the Simpson a couple of years ago with a camper, although this was via the Rigg Rd and from West to East.
Any input would be appreciated.
Graeme

Hi
The track down through
Boggy Hole wont give you to much trouble. Some sandy sections and some sections of river
rock whilst driving through the
Finke River. Mostly just fairly tracky. Good camping at
Boggy Hole. Illamurta
ruins are worth the detour. I did the route in a GU ute 4.2 and a mate followed in a 79 cruiser ute, bit like you towing a trailer LOL

Did this trip a few years ago in 3.0 litre TDi Patrol...no problems but it does get a bit rocky in parts and sandy in others. Our biggest problem was when we turned onto Ernest Giles Rd, it poured with rain, we had to get off the road onto 'high?' ground and were stuck there for 24 hours. Missed seeing it rain on'
The Rock' by just a few hours. You'll enjoy
Boggy Hole, a great spot to spend a night

Bet your mate was sick of towing you by then though?

Gday Graeme,
No troubles at all.....the river gets soft at times, but if your used to towing in the sand and have recovery gear you shouldn't have any trouble.
Cheers

Ps.
Running Waters is a much better camping spot as
Boggy Hole Doesn't have a lot of shade any more.
