Just heard on the radio about a rally that is going from Sydney to Alice Springs raising money for the Cancer Council.

I can't put in a link to the website because the name of the rally will get moderated by our moderation team.

But if you type in Shbox Rally with the appropriate vowel and a T in the right place, you can have a look. Not much imagination needed.
It sounds like it will be a real challenge.

Spend no more than $1000 on a vehicle, including Reg and CTP.
Hint, that will give you an idea of the Box.

Heaps of indigenous people drive the tracks just fine in old Falcons or Commodores. It's a matter of skill and local knowledge.

Exactly. Most of the bush driving (I almost used the term bush bashing but I always stuck to existing tracks) was in 2WD cars. Of course you get bogged often, but that's part of the fun!

I thought this Sh box Rally was quite interesting because of the reason for the rally to raise money for Cancer research.

Just the fact that they are trying to do it with a vehicle that all up costs no more than grand.

How many people would have less than a grands worth of accessories alone on their vehicle to go outback?.

By the way it's an 82 hilux, with the rear axles out of it and new wheelbearings, seals and old diff back into it.

Try it in the Victorian High Country and see how far you get.

Hasn't the Variety Club been doing this for years.

As I recall the first one was the "Burke to Burketown Bash" held in 1985 and organised by Dick Smith.

Back then the cars had to be at least 20 years old.

My Brother-in-law was in the first three if I remember right, back then some pretty noteable people became involved, Len Evan and John Singleton come to mind.
