I am contemplating camping along the Darling for Easter upstream from Wentworth but well below Pooncarie. Can anyone confirm the river levels in this area at the moment and is this area "packed" at Easter. I was thinking of camping on the western side.

Check the river levels from this link, just select which river system you want.

Not too sure about access to the river banks either side for camping as I believe it may be in private ownership. Did you have any particular spot in mind?

Some of the maps I have looked at indicate there is a lower Darling road - unsealed. It looks like it goes close to the river but could be private land as you mentioned. I dont have any spot in mind just wanted to get a bit further upstream to chase better fishing and avoid the mucking around with lock water like they tend do at that time of year.
