It has just been announced that
Southport beach on the southern
Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia has been judged Australia's cleanest beach. This is apparently the first time the award has been made to a beach NOT on the eastern coast.

It is a beautiful beach. It's looked after by the SLSC, and it's a bit of a walk from Pt Noarlunga beach, the only access point, so it doesn't get the masses of people. Only those who make the effort actually go there.
Well done Christies Beach High School for planting in the sand dunes, I wish they ran programs like that when I was a student there all those years ago.

Port Noarlunga beach isn't the only access point, you can walk across the foot
bridge at
Southport SLSC, 3 minutes from your car. Only 5 mins drive from my house.

Saw this announced on the TV news this am, there are sooo many beaches in Tassie that are better the
Southport Beach, but we don't enter these competitions because we don't want others to know.
Stumpys Bay,
Bay of Fires for example, but you guys and gals in the northern island wont want to come down and have a look. LOL.
Cheers

One of the real bonuses of winning Keep Australia Beautiful's Australia's Cleanest Beach award is that people from around the nation will now realise that their are two South Port's in Australia!! One in SA and one in Qld.
We are the CAPITAL 'P's in SA!!

There's also a
Southport in Tasmania. If this post was about
Southport Tasmania then I'd agree with the opening subject line. And no I don't live in Tasmania but have never seen anything more beautiful and I have travelled extensively all over Australia. I have never yearned to return so much to a part of Australia as southern Tasmania.
