Arkapena Scenic Drive gets you up on Mt Prelinna which give some good
views. Some varied terrain along the way too.

I would have to say Skytrek. There aren't many others with
views to the Pound. Skytrek isn't very scenic until you get to the top, but that view from up there is the best going around.
Start early, select a nice day without wind so you can spend some time at the top. Take some chairs, some lunch, something to drink, relax and enjoy the view.

I too would suggest Skytrek.
The drive from the Pound area to
Blinman and back is quite scenic too.
There are some 4WD tracks accessible from
Rawnsley Park I believe but have not had any personal experience with them.

Another vote for Skytrek.
If you go to
Arkaroola the Ridgetop Tour is pretty spectacular too but you travel in one of their vehicles.

Hi Greendog
That part of the Flinders as far as I am concerned would have to be the best. Anywhere in that area has unreal
views and the best scenery. I know the chap from
Blyth that last bulldozed the track last year on Skytrek. From the recent rains many sections were washed away and he has to get back there for repairs.
Depending on just how much time you have, the
places below will show your dad every face that the Flinders has on offer, all within very easy short drives from Wilpena.
Sacred Canyon Drive
Bunyeroo Gorge Drive, including Aroona Valley Drive
The back drive from Oraparinna out to Martins
Well and back to
Rawnsley ParkMoralana Scenic Drive
The main road from Wilpena to
Blinman is now at black stuff and from there the
Glass Gorge drive and out to Nuccaleena.
The good part about the above
places, they are all free and you can drive them when it suites you. I have 3 Trek notes here on EO for some of the above, but here are a few pictures of the various
places.
It will not matter where you go, you dad will have a great time with fantastic scenery.
Cheers
Stephen

Greendog, I have done Skytrek and Arkapeena many times and I also think Arkapeena is the one to do.
There is a lot of varied scenery along the track. The section on the southern side of the Martins Wells road is quite different to the northern side of the road.
There is a great view of the Pound from Prelinna
Hill as
well.
If you want to stop for a cuppa along the way there is a table next to the track near the
Chace Range, and another one just one after you go through the
gate on the north side.
I would suggest doing it in the morning, the sun is just right for getting the colours then.
Takes about 4 hours, but that depends on how many photo stops and wildflower stops.
If you do the
Moralana Gorge road, there is a turnoff to
Black Gap. That's worthwhile too. There is a great view of the
Elder Range when you come back out of
Black Gap.
They are both quite close to Wilpena.
Stokes Hill lookout is good in the morning too.
Bunyeroo Gorge is also best in the morning for the colours.
I think the
Glass Gorge road is best if you go from
Blinman down to Parachilna. You are going downhill a lot of the way and get better
views in my opinion.

The
Heysen trail section on
Argadells is a great ridgetop track - nice on a clear day.
