Hi Carlin,
The company I work for used to distribute a range of children's books about early Australian
explorers. I've been meaning to grab a set for my little boy before we take him west too.
I'll have a look what might be sitting in the warehouse and let you know if any are available and what age group they might suit.

Hi Carlin,
Sorry it's taken awhile to get back to you. If you're still looking for books, they have a set (one book per explorer) that includes:
- Eyre
- Sturt
- Burke & Wills
- Oxley
-
Mitchell
- Leichhardt
- Cunningham
- Logan
- Lawson, Blaxland &
Wentworth
- Kennedy
They should suit kids of primary school age.
Cheers,
David

Hi Carlin,
Try:
The Incredible Outback Adventure of Burke & Wills by Frank Clune. ISBN 0207121036
The Great Overland Race by Marcia McEwan. ISBN 0858352648
Australian
Explorers edited by
John Currey. ISBN 304939153
John Nairn and Frank Pash (artist) have a few books with good pictures.
If you going through B&W country, sure, read up on them if your not don't worry - Burke was a fool and does not belong in the group of Great Australian
Explorers. He should never have been chosen to lead the expedition. Next time I visit
Melbourne, I may and go and visit his grave, but only to see where the idiot ended up!!
Cheers
Alan

Yes I have an ongoing argumnt with a frind about this! I am a a Stuart and Sturt fan as
well. My argument is also h did not even make the ocean! Tidal water in swamp does not count. He also had no respect for the locals. Still, all expeditions contributed to our history I guess. Thanks I will get those books.

I am not sure if this might be an option for you Carlin, but they are playing a story of the Burke & Wills expedition on ABC local radio
Broken Hill lately.
I am not sure if it is available from them or the ABC
shop. Maybe email them and they could tell you if it is available.
I have a few different stories about
explorers and various subjects that I have on a USB flash drive and play them in the car as we travel along.

Carlin, I have some of Len Beadells stories, and also on the local ABC some time ago there was a series about the early days of
Broken Hill.
I also trawl through various podcasts on the net and pick out stories that I think that I would be interested in and download them.
And again, put them on a USB flash drive.
I use a Flash drive rather than a CD because they don't jump around on the corrugations.
If you have a tapedeck in your car, there are usually some good audio books available from your local library.
