About 3 weeks ago when speaking to a great friend of
mine over in the west, he informed me about a new book about Len Beadell. I was hoping to have it before we went away, bit it arrived a few hours after we left. I have just had a very quick look and it should be a great read. For those out there like me that love reading about Len and his team and the roads that he built, the book is by Ian Bayly and is called:
"Len Beadell's Legacy - Australia's Atomic Bomb and Rocket Roads"
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Dave
If you do a Google, you will see that you can get it from a few internet book suppliers. Compare the prices, as I did. I purchased
mine from Boomerang Books in
Sydney and they kept me informed with the progress, from the time that they received my order, until the time that they posted it.
It should be an interesting read.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Tezza
If you are like me, I have every book that has been written about Len. Although most have the same information, what new information there is adds a new aspect to Len and is always helpful.
Cheers
Stephen

Thanks Stephen, I too have just ordered the new book. And like you have read all the others by him and about him. (don't tell Willem!!)
I met and chatted with Lennie when I was at
Woomera in the 50's. A fascinating man. And importantly, I am going on a trek in August through the Central Ranges to
Warburton with Connie Sue and Mick Hutton. It should be really great and I cannot wait.

Hi Allan
I only just started reading the new book late last night and have only read just 27 pages of it, but have learned new information about Len that is not in any of the other books. We are all so very lucky to be able to follow the great tracks that Len and his team made. It would have been great to have met him in person. I have met Anne a couple of times and spoken to her a number of times about some finds that we have made out in
the desert.
Cheers
Stephen

I was fortunate enough to talk to Len just before he retired. Yes a very interesting man. Also saw his talk and slide show about 4 times. He gave his talk so many times that it was like he was reading a script but quite funny as he had a very dry sense of humor as people who have read his books will know. One night he had reached the point of showing a couple of slides on
Giles weather station, one of the slides was the bunk house used in the construction stage. Some body on the audience said his brother was their at that time. Len asked his name and when told, came back with his nickname and brother confirmed that was correct. Len then got away from "the script" and he was really funny and he had the audience including myself crying with laughter.
A great man and should have been knighted by the British for his work in their defense program not just a BEM.
There will never be another Lennie

Hi Barry
Yes he was the last of the true modern day
explorers and we all owe it to him.
Cheers

Although Lennie may have been a bit chuffed at receiving a BEM, plus the OAM and FIEMS I have the feeling that he would have been most uncomfortable at receiving a Knighthood and being known as SIR Leonard Beadell.

Hi Phil
We have been away for 10 days and the book as you guess, arrived a few hours after we left. Have started reading it, a lot of stuff I knew from previous books, but picking up information that was never been written before.
Take Care.
Best Regards
Stephen
