We are looking at a 4wd trip to Tassie with friends next summer and want to know where the best not to be missed real 4wd tracks are. We also like good scenery and camping spots.
Sandy Cape is on our list as is
Montezuma Falls but we are trying to work out a logical route around lots of great tracks so we don't have to backtrack too much. Any good
feedback would be appreciated. Cheers, Chris.

Get yourself a copy of Chris Bodens 4wd tracks in Tas book. Lots of good
treks, though I found the ratings a bit soft,( i thought the 'hard' tracks were not too bad). Bring recovery gear!! Especially down the west coast, try to hook up with someone else to do
Sandy Cape, the stories you will hear of vehicle losses are true. Talk to the locals and listen to them. Drop in to see the guys at North West Offroad in
Devonport when you get off the boat, they are a good bunch and should help you out with info.
In the south, Jeffery's track + White timber trail to Judbury is a good day out, muddy but mostly a good bottom. Can continue on to 'Tahune Airwalk' via Bracken ridge fire trail from Judbury if you start early.
If you get the chance to get over to
Bruny Island camp at Cloudy Bay Beach, is magical spot, bit of a drive but
well worth it. Have heard Montezuma is good, but return via Ring river is very bad, near impassable(unless you don't like your car that much!). How long you here for?

Hi
I suggestyou buy Chris Boden's book Off- Road Tasmania. It is full of great information, both general and historical. All tracks listed are difficulty rated and give a full description. I have used this book on 2 Tassie adventures and found it terrific. 99% sure that Exploroz bookshop keeps stock
Cheers Teza

There is a very' ugly' hole about 1 km into the
Montezuma Falls Track.
Another 'intersting' drive is
Jacobs Ladder up to Ben Lomand.
A beautiful
camp spot (of many)
Bluestone Bay.

Just to the North of
Cape Tourville lighthouse in the Freycinet area.
It is mentioned in the Chris Bowden book.
Just back last week from a delightful month touring Tassie !!
Oh...and unless you are VERY adventurous- give the Balfour Track a miss !!

Hi there Christine, im not sure if the book mentioned (Chris Bowden) is the one you can purchase on the Spirit of Tasmania, but if it is'nt there is a very good book on all the 4x4 track in Tassie you can purchase in the
shop on board.
Enjoy Tassie, we were there in March last year and will be heading back again later this year to work our way around for however long it takes. ie: selling up and going around Aussie.
