Have been onto a few van parks in Broome trying to arrange a site for a few days in June. Can get a site but they are all wanting a minimum of 7 days stay.
That is all well and good if you want to stay for seven days. Have other people came across this as well or is this something new.
Thanks Ross

Thanks Broome Time

You were spot on , out of all the van parks I rang Broome Vacation Village were very helpful and sorted my booking on the spot. They were a bit surprised about all the others wanting 7 day bookings. Thanks again.

Last time I tried, all I could get was "we are not taking bookings". So there must be some spaces available!!
Broome is, well, a unique place. Only thing worse than a few days there is a whole week there!

I hear what you are saying but if I wanted to spend a week there I would fly.
Like yourself it is a long drive to get there but would rather spend my time in the Kimberley and other areas.

To be fair, our problems at Broome were made worse because we were travelling with a dog, and no-one wanted to know us. We ended up a couple of nights at the Roebuck roadhouse CP (not to be confused with Roebuck Bay CP) which was very basic. We were very happy with the Kimberley Entrance CP at Derby before that, and then we stayed at Port Smith CP which we also enjoyed.
We did a number of our Western Kimberley things from Derby, including the Horizontal Falls flight (sheer magic!!) and a trip up to Bell Gorge, Winjana, etc. (left the van and dog behind and camped).

Tenpounder,

Travelling with your dog would be much easier than travelling with Ross H, trust me on that. Caravan parks in Broome have just heard about this guy before he rang hehehe.

Listen Trevor, I'd rather make my own enemies, thanks. I have nothing against Ross H (yet). But when you can't even let your dog have a leak on half the foreshore, well, that's enough!!
I wonder how Ross would take to being left at a kennel for four days! Might do him good.

"can't even let your dog have a leak on half the foreshore"

Jeez they're really going to love Ross with his Friday night habits hahahhaha.

As for the kennel bit, it would just make him feel at home as he is always in one at his place anyway.

Cheers, Trevor.

Alot of parks around Oz dont allow dogs.

I dont blame them either.

Who wants turds all over the place, bleep on everyones tyres, dogs barking all night and day, possibility of kids being bitten, ticks/fleas throughout park, holes dug, bones left laying around, lizards killed, etc etc.

Not saying you or your dog would do any of the above, but even as a dog/animal lover i understand the reason for these rules. Its the minority who ruin it for the majority you know that. Cant go letting in small dogs, and not big mean looking dogs, because they all have different personalities. Some animal owners have no idea. The amount of times i have nearly been bitten by dogs running free at the beach, i tell ya, the owners dont value there dogs life as much as i value my ankles. Never mind when there are kids around, i wouldnt hesitate to put a dog down if it bit me. No matter how serious, and i wouldnt hesitate in roughing up the owner either.

In order to maintain a safe park they have to make these rules. And they have to apply to all dogs across the board.

Same can be said about people's children I guess.

I remember when we were at a caravan park in Kununurra and our lovely neighbours let their children poo and wee under a tree between both sites just as they were leaving the caravan park.

I also remember them yelling at 2 in the morning (these children were between 10 and 14 I would say) and waking a lot of people up the night before they left.

I wish I could put down some people's children. And the parents themselves.

Perhaps they also need rules that apply to all children too?

Have fun you lucky barstool, you know I would love to be tagging along.

Ross,

During our honeymoon in 2007, we only made one booking and that was the Caravan Park on the way in to Broome, right near the speedway, due to me calling up all the others and being told they were booked out.

Over the course of the two months we spent travelling the Kimberley, we stayed in Broome on several occasions and just rocked up to various caravan parks (primarily cable beach CP) and were never turned away. It probably helped that we were in a 4WD with a roof top tent and didn't take up much space :)

Cheers,

Jason.

It is getting to that stage where they will no longer take bookings (we live here and have contacts to the Visitors Centre)

This year they have expanded the Roebuck plains CP but none of the parks in town will allows dogs

personally I think its bollocks that council run or leased parks dont/wont allow dogs.
I reckon they have a social obligation to provide for dog owners in one way or another.
If they can accept fees for dog registration and then they can provide these basic necessities.
To top it off with fining people for camping on the roadside when they have no alternative just sucks to me.
Yes I am a dog owner, but I rarely travel with mine nowadays.

The people who get caught out are the grey army, and people in the process of relocating across the country.

Banning all dogs cos some cause a problem is exactly the same as banning all offroad travel cos of a few troublemakers. And we all know how riled people get on here about those sorts of things.
