Sat Phone Hire

I need to hire a Sat Phone for a planned west-east crossing of the Simpson in early July. We aren't intending going via Mt Dare - travelling via Marree to Oodnadatta then Dalhousie.

I live in Sydney. A google search finds heaps, but I was looking for a recommendation.

Appreciate any help.

Brian, the simplest thing is to go via Mt Dare - even if just to say hello and hire a sat phone, then you can leave it at Birdsville at the Information Centre.

Thanks Ruth.

It's beginning to make more sense to visit Mt Dare.

Yes go via Mt Dare
We did it the other way around and dropped the phone off at Mt Dare - too easy.

And the other benefit is that Mount Dare is a jerry can closer to Birdsville than Oodnadatta!! Not to mention the delights of the Mount Dare Hotel for a night or two - not to be missed.

Tenpounder,

yes the jerry closer bit is something I had already considered prior to the sat phone consideration, especially as the 100 series is a petrol. I appreciate the prompt though.

Hi Brian
As the others said Mt Dare is the best place to hire a sat phone.
Make sure you book one as they are limited number available. during peak travel times all taken.Site Link

Thanks Rob,

I rang Mt Dare today. They currently have four available, but don't expect them to last long. The availability thing would probably be such a variable, with the east to westers dropping them off as well.

He who hesitates, misses out!

I suggest you don't bother. They'll be more people out there than you can shake a stick at. A couple of years ago a friend of mine did the Simpson in 2WD in his 4WD.

G'Day Brian,
Suggest you contact Landwide Satellite Solutions at Ingleburn (www.landwide.com.au 1800 45 45 87).
I hire from them whenever I head anywhere remote. They are very helpful, reasonably priced and have agents in every state.

Cheers,

Paul
