Afternoon'

I'm from the UK and landing in Perth 3rd of June, I was looking to head North into Broome but not happy paying Greyhound prices and not wanting the direct route.

I've found I can get into Gerlandton with Transwa for around $50 but I can't seem to find any buses that would go from there straight to Broome which is fair enough but I'd like to bus it like this.

Geraldton - Carnarvon, then Carnarvon - Karratha - Port Hedland - Broome.

First does anyone know if this is possible, then if you know of any bus services/websites I could check out in advance. Secondly if this isn't possible via bus, any other cheap recommendations for a similar route??

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Mate if you wanted to fly you can pick up a direct flight for about $150.

Perth to Broome. 2 1/2 hours.

Check Virgin Blue (Australia) website at around 11am to 1pm they have a Happy Hour with cheap seats every day. I think its about lunchtime WA time.

If not you could also try Skywest or Qantas, but Virgin Blue is the cheapest.

If not then the Greyhound is your only option really, unless you wanted to catch the local transit buses from town to town, but it would probably add up to double the Greyhound after you paid accomodation costs.

Its cheaper to fly to Broome from Perth, then what it is to drive.

Hi Dave,
Welcome to Australia!
Before you book your flight, just check for accommodation availability in Broome for that time of year; it gets pretty popular, and low-cost accom might be hard to find.
cheers,
Gerry

Muntoo,
The only bus service from Geraldton to Carnarvon then to Karratha and on to Broome is Greyhound.
There are no buses apart from Greyhound that connect these towns.

Davie,
You can arrange to go by Greyhound Perth to Broome with stopovers at the towns you mentioned on the one ticket but you must confirm your forward travel date at each town's booking agent to ensure your seat.

Have you considered buying an older vehicle to drive while you are here and selling it when you leave.

Hope this helps with your planning

Mate
- by the time you get to broome your just gonna want to either kill yourself

or catch the first plane back to blighty

Bus travel aint fun an is insanely boring

I used to take the 8 hour for 55okm trip regulary as a kid and once made the mistake of travelling from Adelaide to Perth by bus something like 2 days of sitting in those crappy seats and swore NEVER AGAIN

the only way you will end up not poking your eyes out with hot needles because it is more fun will be if you reeeeely love your own company or carry round a personall library and love to read

Yeah i did Wyndham to Albany once.

And then back again. With a 2yr old.

The way home was worse because we got the long run from Albany to Perth, instead of taking the usual 6 hours to do 400ks we did the Northam run and it took about 11 hours.

Something like 48 hrs to Perth and then another 6 to Albany. Way home was about 60hrs all up.

Never do that again. Have done a few shorter 12 hour trips on Greyhound since, its not that bad really as long as you can get 2 seats to yourself. But you know your in strife if there are kids on board, especially with single mums.

Google to see if Easy Rider backpacker buses still run up and down the coast. I saw one not long ago so they might still be around.

Try http://perth.gumtree.com.au/

Look in the community section then rideshare. Quite often people travelling that way looking to share costs.

This may be a cheaper alternative.
