We have recently been in contact with Nissan re our blown motor (Patrol 2002 ZD30 engine). We are totally disgusted in the response from Nissan or should we say the lack of response.
We are now looking at the option of taking a Class Action against Nissan. We are fully aware of the amount of faults and problems with the ZD30 engine. We are also very aware of how many people this motor has affected. In our most recent correspondence we warned Nissan that we would have no hesitation in organising a Class Action and this made no impact on the Nissan boss (CEO) Dan Thompson. Nissan has continued to treat people with contempt over the ZD30 issue and it's about time someone stood up and gave Nissan what they deserve.
We have experience with legal matters and will have no problems organising this Class Action.
To all the people who have been ripped off by Nissan please contact me via this post and we can go from there. I will also be opening a page on Facebook and other internet sites shortly so we can reach as many people as we can. We will be sending correspondence to Ray Hadley etc. No stone will be left unturned in terms of showing Nissan that enough is enough.
Let us all get together and blast Nissan just as the ZD30 did to all of us.
Regards

Hope I'm not saying something that I might get moderated or sued for, but I remember back in the early '70's, someone put a block ad in the National Times (as it was then) saying:
"Are you the owner of a current series Jaguar, and have had more than $12,000 worth of trouble with it in the last 12 months? If so, you are entitled to join the 'Crook Jaguar Owner's Club'. Ring this number xxxxxxxx for today's best story".
Geez, it stirred a hornet's nest!
Jaguar were very quick on the response in the media (as were the media), and amazingly the owner (who had a V12 E-type) suddenly received prompt attention.
True!!
cheers,
Gerry (not my real name)

This is a known problem world wide. Nissan have been fixing the engines up to 5 or 6 years old.
As I said it is a known problem world wide but I dont think a class action down under would worry them too much.
By the way not all failures are due to a fault with the engine. However they all tend to get lumped into the same category.
When you have finished that class action I suggest you start another against Kia for the Carnival Engine. Another fine piece of engineering design. In Kia's defense the engine is made by Rover ( Say no more)

Hi ZD30Bomb,
First of all I am feeling your pain. I had a 2004 GUIII I had since new. It was serviced and during the 80000km service it was noticed that the coolant level was low. Long story short, the head had cracked at the no 4 cylinder. The Nissan service centre in
Darwin (yeap Kerrys, the worst Nissan service centre in Australia) would not help or even give me numbers to ring. The Patrol was 12 months out of warranty. I wrote several letters and ended up getting Nissan to provide a new head and associated hardware for free. I payed the labour. This good will gesture still cost me over $3k for fitting a head.......................great stuff, and they stuff it up to boot. I have all the associated e-mails etc if they might help you.
From what I understand, the class action route has been taken but didn't get to far because even though a lot of people have had issues, they vary. Glad to give you any information to help.
Good luck
Dave
