I understand the Hema Navigator can also be used with a reversing camera. Anyone done this and how easy is it?

Hi Richard
The Hema 5 is supplied with a small AV cable. My understanding but not tested is that when there is an AV signal it will automatically show the camera.
So if the camera is connected to a reverse signal it will produce an AV signal when reverse gear is selected and then show the image, it should then go back to gps when the signal turns off.
???
I have not tested this so would also like the result.

Some more info that I would like from members reading this thread...
I purchased the NATMAP 2008 for $99.00 thinking that it would be the high resolution map as shown here on the EO trips and tracks iMap.
It is not :-(
It is the same as the preloaded maps on the Hema 5. (waste of $99.00 ?)
How do I get the EO 'digital map' onto my Hema 5 ?
Regards
Derek

"How do I get the EO 'digital map' onto my Hema 5 ? "
There is no way to get the whole lot in one go. When you select a specific trek to download you can also download a "Map" - which is an oziexplorer calibrated image of the area involved. You will receive a 2000x2000 pixel map image (.gif) and the OziExplorer geo-referenced .map file. I'm not sure it would be any more detailed than the 250K raster map in most respects as it is based on the same info. The image is supplied in gif format so you will need to convert it to ozf3 (or ecw, plus a few others - jpg, png and bmp if image not too big) for use on the HN5.
Cheers
Greg

Thanks Greg
I just purchased the
Cape York one and received a 2000x2000 png file that is very poor resolution.
The hema
Cape York map is better in this case.
The reason I was looking was I would like a detailed map of the road from
Daintree to
Cooktown as it is quite vague on all the maps I have.

I have yet to
test this function on my Hema.
I haven't yet got around to running the cable from the camera through the firewall and into the cabin, but I have an entry point to do so.
I wouldn't use this as a permanent solution however, as I don't leave the Hema in the vehicle between country and outback trips.
I have a mirror mounted monitor from my previous vehicle installation but it has proven a little heavy for the inside mirror of the Colorado.
May have to secure it with a couple of straps to the visor supports methinks.
Bill.

OK, I can confirm that this does work, I have just don't a
test on my Hema 5.
There are a few steps that need to be done but once set up works fine.
1) It only works when the Hems is switched on it does not work in sleep mode.
2) You must first switch the AV port on in the main settings screen and flip the image if required to suit the camera you are using.
3) Do not switch the AV port off simply unplug the jack plug and the main menu will appear again.
4) Select the navigation mode and you are ready.
5) Plug the camera in and the image appears, image can be controlled by unplugging the camera or simply switching the camera off.
This works
well and if the camera is powered by the reverse lamps it will be fully automatic.
Regards
Derek

Thanks Derek and others. I have a Hema Navigator on the way. I did in fact ask Hema a question about the reversing camera and never received a reply which is disappointing. I hesitated in buying one because of this but decided eventually it was the only one that fitted most of my criteria.

Yes their service is not the best and I have had a few problems that they could not explain and I had to fix myself, one of which was the R66 update that crashed my whole application, they now have a warning on the site about this so don't do the upgrade right away. I also bought additional downloads that are locked and I can't open ;-(
If I had the choice again I might give it a skip and buy a basic system and then do my own application install as others have already suggested in other threads.
That being said it will do what I want it to do once I get more detailed maps.
Note: The Natmap 2008 is basically what is preloaded so don't buy that.
Thanks guys for the help with the maps that have been offered by PM.

I got
mine from Johnny Appleseed in Salisbury,
Brisbane, Qld and glad I did. They know the product and told me the trick of inverting the camera to get the correct horizantal picture. Easy to do and works magic.

Re the reverse camera,
mine works magic. Engage reverse and on comes the rear camera image. Put gearstick in angel and back to GPS image. However, the image from camera needs to be flipped on the horizantal, for which there is an extra figure 8 cable provided, but no information what to connect it to or how to. Must be real basic stuff. Anyone got any clues. Suppose I can always ring the helpful guys at Johnny Appleseed in Salisbury
Brisbane, where I got it on the web. The beautiful little black cam fits under the latch handle of our D-40 Navara and flat out seeing it. (Re the Hema 5 GPS, yep it works fine)

RockyOne - I have a Hema Navigator and would like to fit the camera. I was thinking of mounting it right in the centre of the rear number plate (ie cut a hole when the little black diamond is in my NSW plates). I'm trying to visualise where you have your camera and thinking under the tailgate latch....do you have a
pic of your installation you could upload?
Thanks
Pete

Hi P22, Steady! I suggest you not tamper with your rego plate as 'they' can find enough things on most rigs to ticket us if they are having a 'bad hair day' Only reason I have not posted a
pic of my magic setup is the camera & latch handle are all black so the camera just is not visible in a photo. However, this arvo, when I get
home, I will put some thin strips of masking tape on the square corners of the camera or on the latch handle base area to make the camera stand out. Will post
pic on Wed 165th.Main reason I got the camera (apart from the fact I love gadgets-be honest old son) is I have a personalised number plate with glass over it and want to be able to see the tow ball when reversing onto the caravan or trailer without smashing anything. My cam clearly shows the tow ball and everything else of interest. Would have thought that a cam viewing through a small hole like you appear to suggest on a vertical plane as the rego plate is, would only provide an elevated view at about the same level as the rear view mirrors. Hold off 'till I post the
pic. Have fun Brian (not Brain;-)
