In 2000, at the time there was plenty of
water in Lake Ayre, we spent some 18 days in the
Simpson Desert averaging only a few kms a day as we took in a very spectacular wild flower display.
Can anyone tell me what this year is looking like from a wildflower aspect, both in quantity and timing?
I appreciate that access is likely to be possible only from the west but that is OK as just being there will be fine.

Gidday Mel
The first time I crossed the Simpson was in the same year as you. From what I'm seeing, there have been good rains coming down from the North West leading up to the tourism season.
If this continues in June or early July, I think
the desert will bloom. However there is no way telling to be or sure.

We have just come out of
the Desert and sitting at Ayers Rock on our way home to
Adelaide.
We traveled from Mt Dare along the French Line, up the Colson Track (Bypassing the Aboriginal Areas) onto the
Madigan Line at
Camp 6 up to
Camp 15 then North on the
Hay River Track and out to
Jervois Station. Along the Plenty Hwy to
Alice Springs, down to
Palm Valley, Kings Canyon and sitting here at
Yulara.
There was a few
Wildflowers already showing their color but I am sure in another few weeks there will be an abundance of flowers to enjoy.
The
Simpson Desert is Green.....
