Would certainly be warm at xmas but I'm sure a lot of people go then.
It is about 3hrs to
Rainbow from
Brisbane with a good run and not much traffic - a little more than 3 hrs perhaps. To get onto Fraser will take another 30mins or so depending on how long you wait for a barge at Inskip. You'll be looking at 30 to 120 mins drive to a
campsite once on the island depending where you are staying.
Main issue with the weather is any storms or potentially low pressure systems (even cyclones) that hang around that time of year. I'm sure you'll get a lot more good days than bad but there is certainly a chance of some windy, wet and wild weather.

I was up there a few years ago during the Christmas holidays. Left here (Wagga) Boxing Day. While it was warm, I found it bearable. The humidity was worse than the heat. Be sure to have a good food storage/fridge system. Meat went off real quick in this. Dingoes have also learned how to open eskies.
While there were people there it was not overcrowed.

I's also suggest you have a look at the Fraser Island beach conditions as you get closer to the start of your trip.

Contact Queensland National Parks and Wildlife about
camping.
Frazer is great but the usual Christmas crowds apply up there.
Summer storms and possible cyclones but you will get warnings about them.
( be prepared to get out of you are warned )
I would also look at
Inskip Point and around
rainbow beach
you can then day or overnight to Frazer and also do the land side as
well.
A much better option to Alice and the center :-)
Sunscreen and mosquito repellant !!! By the bucketload

Have a look at the tides on the net. If you go on the inskip it is better to go just before low tide. Makes for a quick trip to
Rainbow off the barge. We have been there over Christmas a couple of times. Its crowed everywhere you go on the coast then. The worst is the in experienced drivers you will encounter. Use your indicator and stuff like that. We always get the pass at
Rainbow beach. Pay for barge when you drive on it.
Enjoy.

Going to Fraser at Christmas Time, ya got rocks in ya head, every clown and his dog will be there along with all the less than intelligent Backpackers, go at a quieter time and enjoy yourself.

I've been a couple of times over Xmas and it's pretty crowded but ok in my opinion. I always cross the river near Noosa and drive all the way along
the beach to get to
Rainbow, much better than the road. You have to time it with the tides though to get the best run.
It's a great 4wd experience and I think you will have fun. Weather is on the humid side but the temps are not extreme like the centre. Try not to be one of the cowboys on
the beach, go up and practice at
Stockton first.

Probably not the best time to visit Fraser, however if that is when you have holidays go for it.
It is still great but there are more people than usual but certainly no where near as bad as anywhere else along the East Coast.
Always try to travel close to the low tide or you will double the trip times and make your vehicle work harder.
Don't worry about the hot weather or the insects and dingoes. I don't know how some people on this
forum go on holidays if they worry about hot weather and insects, maybe they just post replies after sitting at home in air conditioning watching documentaries.
I've done twenty trips to the Island and never had a problem with insects, dingoes or heat.
Regards
Geoff

I'd recommend that you use the "green" barge at
Inskip Point.
They are business advertisers here, and a great mob to do business with.
