Hi,
We're in the process of coming back the way you're proposing and the petrol prices we came across are as follows (in cents):-
18/05/10
Erldunda Shell 173.0
20/05/10 Ayers
Rock Mobil 161.0
22/05/10 Kings Canyon
Mobil 172.0
23/05/10
Erldunda Shell 171.0
24/05/10
Alice Springs W/Cal 143.9
27/05/10
Alice Springs W/Cal 142.9
31/05/10
Alice Springs W/Cal 143.9
1/06/10 Barrow Ck BP 176.8
2/06/10 Tennant Ck BP 149.5
2/06/10 Barkly H/stead
Caltex 179.9
3/06/10
Camooweal BP 171.9
4/06/10 Mt Isa W/Cal 125.7
5/06/10
Cloncurry W/Cal 140.9
Notes:
* There's no fuel at the Devil's Marbles
* 'W/Cal' is Woolworths/
Caltex and would have been 4 cents off normal price with a Woolies docket.
* Both Ayers
Rock and Kings Canyon are owned by the same company ('Voyages') and want an extra 1% on anything paid by credit card, including fuel.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris. I need those numbers as
well.
At $1.40 / litre it is $415 to fill up my tow truck so any help is appreciated.

Your numbers allow me to by pass a fill up at Barley
Homestead and
Camooweal as I can cover the 656.7 kilometers from Shell at Mt Isa to
Tennant Creek. By making sure I fill in Mt Isa at $1.19.9 (using my 6 cent a litre shell docket), I save 60 cents a litre. Over the 297 litres I would need to buy, makes fuel $178.20 cheaper.
Because
Tennant Creek is $1.49 however, perhaps I just save 30 cents a litre so I just save $89.10.
Whichever way you look at it, I would rather the money in my pocket.

BlackienBlondie:
Sorry, but we got to Alice from
Brisbane via
Broken Hill,
Adelaide and the Eyre Peninsula so have no idea about Camerons Cnr or Poeppel's. :-(
Carlsp:
You're right about the fuel maths! The only reason we had to refuel at Barkly was that we've been pushing a 20~40kph headwind all the way east from
Tennant Creek and I didn't want to try running out of go-juice short of the Isa. The wind's still blowing here at
Winton ($1.40.9 today) but hopefully it'll ease off soon.
While towing, we haven't managed any better than 25lt/100km or about 11mpg since Tennant Ck, even sitting on 85kph. :-(
Cheers,
Chris
