We will be travelling to the
Diamantina National Park next week and would like any information on the easiest access coming from the south. Information on fuel stops available north and west of
Windorah would also be appreciated

Dropped into the Park for only an afternoon & night last July travelling south from
Boulia. After
Boulia next fuel was
Windorah, so you need to make sure you work out how much fuel you will need carefully, unless you have a Prado with a 180L tank!
Boulia is the closest fuel point to the park that we could see.
Use the river water for washing etc, so you can minimise the number of water Jerry cans you need and maximise fuel jerry cans.
We wished we could have stayed another 2-3 nights, as for our teenage kids it was the highlight of 7000km through central Australia. It was warm enough (just) to swim. Had reasonable amount of wildlife.
The roads last year we found to be very good (unusual for a NP) graded dirt.
Apart from a long drop, don't expect any facilities for your camping fees.

Was there end of May. All roads were fine. Came in from
Windorah & out
through NW to Boulia/
Winton Road. Minimal water over road. Need fuel for 7/800
km. Nice birdlife.
Waterhole edges were deep mud, may be better now. No
supplies so be prepared. .....oldbaz.
