Hi Pete
I was asking the very same question on Friday to a local from here who works up at Moomba and he said that the causeway has no water over it - seems very hard to believe after all that water down on the Birdsville Track. I have nearly finished to blog, so you will have to have a look when finished.

Cheers

I don't think it is that hard to believe. It is a lot of river miles from Innamincka to the Birdsville Track.

A lot of my friends think Broken Hill and Bourke are right next to each other but they are not. Many of those same friends can't believe it is nearly 1500km from Darwin to Alice, or that it is twice as far from Brisbane to Weipa as it is from Brisbane to Sydney.

The Outback is big, and distances by slow flowing river are many times greater than road distances. Yes there is a lot of water out there at the moment but there is a lot of land for it to move around on.

Hi Duncs
I am well and truly aware of the distances between the two places and have been to both locations a good number of times. The point that I was referring to was at its peak, it was 9 metres over the causeway and now there is nothing. The Cooper at the moment is not slow moving and is moving quite quick at the ferry site.

Cheers

Gday Duncs,
Its not so much the river miles, but the number of lakes that get filled along the way - particularly Lake Hope.

Cheers

Just had freinds come back from that way last week and no issues with the crossing.
