Hi Kemp Family

We are 2 weeks in on our round Oz trip - 2 kids age 6 & 7 and mum & dad (we are a bit older....)

Currently in Hervey Bay and heading to Rockhampton (gee, when is it gonna get warm?) possibly next weekend. Plan to do a mix of caravan parks from the expensive to the cheap and the odd free-camp inbetween.

We are in L/Cruiser towing caravan, so taking the bitumen whereever we can.

Happy to share your company any time our paths meet.

Happy trails

We're leaving Brisbane for Cairns in a few of weeks, with 2 girls (3 & 5) in tow. Will be away 3 weeks all up and are looking forward to the warmth up north! Also staying in a mix of CP's. We're in our mid-late 30's.

For a list of free or cheap camp/van sites (usually 1-2 nights at a time, as most dont have power) pick some suggestions from this great website:

http://ozcamps.net/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=29

We are managing to keep budget, by mixing these up with the Big 4 parks. Big 4 are great - always kid friendly, and the member's discount, 'stay 5 nights pay for 4" or the 'kids stay free' specials can bring the price in line with the cheaper ones.

Can't wait to get to Big 4 Coconut Resort in Cairns - with its Water Splash Park and world's largest jumping pillow. Kids will have a ball. At $75 a night it will certainly blow the budget......but that's where the "Free Camping" sites really prove their worth.

Heading to Rockhampton on Sunday. When will you be there? We arrive in Cairns early August.

Hi,

We leave in about 10 days time to travel the whole country with 3 kids aged 3,6 and 8.

We leave Sydney and travel north up the coast to Rockhampton then head West to Mt Isa, Darwin then down the west coast.

We have a Windsor Rapid and Blue Jackaroo so look out for us!!!

Cant wait to see the sunshine, its horrible here in Sydney!!!

Hi there Kemps,
As you get further North have a night or two in Rollingstone Big4.( North of Townsville.)
Ask for a beachfront site. You wont be disappointed. Great pool area for kids and the sunrise over the water is sensational. Sunset is pretty good too. The waterholes and waterfalls of the Paluma area are only 30 mins from the c/park as a good day out.
My family did Hobart to Port Douglas last year. Stayed in C/ps all the time and we picked kid friendly places to stay.September/October archives at www.cooneystour.blogspot.com will give you the rundown on the places we found good to stay at to keep the kids entertained/exhausted!!Mine are a bit older than yours and it was so nice at the end of the day to send them off to a pool for an hour or so whilst mum and dad enjoyed a cleansing ale. :)

Safe travelling.
