Ningaloo

Hi guys
Just a bit of info for anyone heading to Ningaloo - general camping is $5 per night per person - as is has been for a while, but there is also a $100 bond per vehicle (+ extra per four wheeler(ATV)) for the access key to the gate to access your allocated camp site.... You MUST register at the homestead before setting up camp (or looking for a camp site) as you require a key to get to your campsite (cash only) - It it very advisable to have a UHF - on channel 1Duplex - as Phil (callsign 'Coastwatcher') monitors this channel - it is also used by most people staying there and very comforting while out in the boat behind the reef.
If camping you must have a port-a-potty. Ensure you also bring your own firewood - get it around Minilya, or, if coming from the North - on
Burkett road - once you get on the Ningaloo road there isnt much around!
We were there a few days back and they were having trouble trying to find places for people to stay - so it is also advised to ring and book ahead if you intend on travelling there in the school holidays.
The track a few days back was a bit corrugated - but not too bad (able to sit on 60 - 80 towing a 16ft boat behind a Cruiser). The worst bit was the last few k's from the coral bay turnoff. Actually - the worst bit was the number of other cars on it...
Have fun!
Drew
