Hi fellow
explorers....We are travelling from Hervey Bay to
Longreach towing 25' caravan - should we turn off at
Gladstone and head to
Emerald via the Dawson Highway, or head to
Rockhampton and take the Capricorn Highway the whole way? We like small towns, pretty scenery and decent playgrounds for the kids to burn off some energy - plus 'experiences' you dont get in your everyday life.
Also, can anyone recommend a nice FREE
camp spot half way between coast &
Longreach along the Capricorn Hwy?
Thx

We recently went to
Longreach via the Capricorn Hwy, plenty of
places you can pull over for the kids, I understand there is a reasonable
free camp under the railway
bridge at
Emerald.
Cheers

Free camping under the
bridge at
Emerald is no longer allowed. Stopped there last week, no camping signs had been put up everywhere.

Not half way, but a nice
free camp at
Jericho on the banks of the creek.. Has
toilet and an outside shower- like after swimming shower. Kris and Kev
