Hi all
Not long now & we are off. In a month or so we leave the Sunny Coast in QLD & heading down to
Narromine NSW.
From there we have a few options.
Nyngan,
Cobar,
Wilcannia,
Broken Hill,
Tibooburra OR
Nyngan,
Cobar,
Wilcannia,
White Cliffs,
Tibooburra OR
Nyngan,
Bourke,
Wanaaring,
Tibooburra.
From
Tibooburra we head to Cameron's Corner via Merty Merty, on to
Innamincka,
Walkers Crossing then to
Birdsville for the races.
We have a capable Triton so no dramas with the vehicle requirements. Any suggestions on other routes will be welcomed.
Hopefully the road conditions will be ok.
Stef

Hi Stef
Any way sounds good with one exception,
Walkers Crossing. We are in that area in a few weeks and that was one track we wanted to do again. National Parks said that it will be out of action until at least November and
Coongie Lake will be out until next year. As for your vehicle, you will have no drams at all.
Which ever way you go, have a great trip and if time permits,
check out the ferry over the flooded
Birdsville Track. This is one sight that may not happen for another 20 years or more.
Cheers
Stephen

We've been checking out some of the photos you have taken on your trips - great stuff!! Do you have any suggestions re
innamincka to
Birdsville if
Walkers Crossing is closed?? Or do we just go the long way around & enjoy the scenery?

Hi Stef
You will have 2 options.
Innamincka -
Birdsville via
Cordillo DownsInnamincka -
Birdsville via Arrabury, Planet Downs and
Betoota.
You have a while before you go and with some fine warm weather to dry tracks out more, keep your fingers crossed for
Walkers Crossing.
Have a Great Trip and any way you go will be good.
Cheers
Stephen

We have just come from Tas to QLD...all I can suggest is make sure you have really good sleeping bags and thermals because it was freezing in parts of NSW of a night! .....and that's coming from a Tasmanian! Hope you have a good trip!

Stefandsal -
Nyngan,
Cobar,
Wilcannia,
Broken Hill and
Tibooburra will give you the most sealed road.
Wilcannia,
White Cliffs and
Tibooburra is all dirt. We can back this route last year and found it interesting - stopping in
White Cliffs to have a look around the town. If you wanted to sleep underground we stayed at PJ Underground which is a B&B and was excellent. We travelled from
Tibooburra to
Wilcannia in a day and camped and fished the
darling river above the town with no problems. Fuel is cheaper off the main street in
Wilcannia - turn left off the
bridge on the western side and follow the signs down to BP depot.
It has been a number of years since I travelled
Bourke,
Wanaaring but believe it is still rough.
I believe every place is worth at least one look.
Have a good trip

Stefandsal - road from
Wilcannia to
White Cliffs is actually sealed. If you go out through
Bourke you can
free camp on the Darling 16 kms north of
North Bourke on the
Cunnamulla road -then turn right and go in about 4 kms to the river.
It is marked on the ozcamps web site www.ozcamps.net
