We usually go to Mt Skene in Winter for a snow trip but as it is now permit only we need advice on a good 4wd spot to
camp in snow for a night. We are looking for somewhere that is high enough to have reliable snow in the next 3 or 4 weeks and open to 4wds. Not too far from say
Mansfield way and with an area big enough for 5 vehicles and swags etc. Any one in the know please help us if you can.

Its still the place to go Chris and worth applying for a permit - We have applied for one on 7th August.
I note that form asks for club
membership name and proficentcy level, while we have these I don't no that you will be knocked back for not having them.
Another place with several great spots is the road around the back of Mt Baw Baw on way to St Gwinear (approach from west) - however it only rises to some 1200 meters so snow is not so assured but I guarantee it will be cold.
Snow can be assured further on at St Gwinear however you have to pay $15 for day pass(last year).

I believe the names on the permit are checked to ensure they are affiliated with 4wd Vic so they have public liability cover & asumably have had some basic
driver training, or at least that was the intension.
Unless there are some new snow falls there wont be much cover in a couple of weeks anywhere.

Hi guy's, depending on the weather and snow conditions you could try the Bennison Plains area Nth of
Licola. You can
camp at either Lost Plain or
the Gorge carpark. Another option is the Mt Useful area.
Cheers Darryn
