Just after some advice/reviews of some of the camping/caravan park spots in the following places:

Charleville

Quilpie

Windorah

Boulia

Winton

Longreach

I just want to know the best value for money.... the positives and the negatives? :)

Thanks in advance

Sarah,
Check your camps 5 Book and you will find excellent campsites, all free, so you need to be self suffient. The Boulia Campsite (Qld 401) had the wrong waypoint, it should be S22 53 16.8 E139 56 01.2. it is near the racetrack. We arrived home yesterday from all of these except the Longreach Waterhole which we camped at last year.
People could help more if you say what kind of camping you are set up for.

Cheers,
Bill

We are looking for caravan parks mostly and National Parks.

Although we are self sufficent so free/bush camps are fine too. :)

Great little caravan park at Quilpie.

Excellent camping on the Cooper at Windorah on the western side of the Bridge.

Reasonable caravan park at Boulia, plenty of camping outside of town.

Carisbrook station is a great spot near Winton, the owner also does day tours out to Lark Hill Quarry and surrounds, an interesting day.

Hi Sarah

We use Camps Australia Wide 5 for free and low cost campgrounds, and the on line Badger's CP review websitefor checking out caravan parks (if reviewed by other campers).

At Boulia we stayed at the caravan park - near the river and very nice. It was also refreshing to find good quality water to fill the tanks in an area where the artesian water can smell pretty awful.

At Longreach we stayed at the free camp on the Thompson River a few kms out of town. It is on Qld river clay so can be hazardous if it is wet (and it rained both nights we were there, but we didn't get stuck). The CP in town looked awful to us (we are bush campers). A number of people said that rather than stay at the CP in Longreach, they commuted from nearby Ilfracombe, where the caravan park is lovely. We stayed at the Ilfracombe CP for one night just because of the good reputation - thoroughly recommend it.

In Winton we choose the one in town - amenities were old donga style, but water was hot, and it was easy to walk to the Matilda Centre and other tourism places. We did a day trip to Lark Quarry from here.

We did not go to the other places you have asked about.

You can check out the reviews - mine and others - on Badgers link above. This also gives price people paid.

Evening Star caravan park at Charleville is very pleasant. It is about 9km NE of town; go north through town, then take the Adavale road. It is on a property, fairly newly developed, great sites. We find that the main park in town really packs rigs in like sardines.
There is a little caravan park at Windorah which we found quite adequate when there a few years ago.
There is only one caravan park at Boulia which we have stayed at several times. Nothing flash but does the job.
We have always found our several stays at the Matilda CP at Winton to be ok, but I have seen some adverse comments on forums. There is camping out at Bladensberg NP, not far out of town. Or you could go and have a look at Opalton, some 120km south - haven't been there for a while but there used to be a little camp area: very basic, but there were toilets and showers.
Have you considered going to Diamantina NP - should be great out there now.

Winton.

Get water outside the sports ground at the dump point western side of town.

Camp just outside the Bladensburg NP. 100 meters short of the mian entrance there is a dam on the left. You cannot see it from the road but level ground with lots of birds to look. The NP ranger at the camp ground does NOT like fires if you decide to stay there.
