bloomfield road

We are heading to cooktown tomorrow via the sealed road but are hoping to come back via cape tribulation on Bloomfield....Just wondering what the track is like at the moment...has anyone towed camper/caravan through there in last couple of weeks?

I am going up that way from Cape Trib' to Cooktown on Sunday towing a Kimberley Karavan. There may already be one in Cooktown now as they went up yesterday.

This morning I asked a similar question of the Tourist officer in Port Douglas and was told it was fine and the water is not at all high

Hopefully will be in Cooktown during Sunday afternoon and staying at the Big 4 Holiday Park.

If you like, email me on Sunday and I will reply to you.

Hope that will help you.

I hope to be there this afternoon. You will recognise my unit, a Kimberley Karavan with NSW plate and bike mounted up on the front of it. See you this afternoon.
Cheers

Roadworks on the steep sections should be almost complete.....this was early July:

Towing UP this section (going southbound) may be a test of your setup. The road should be OK apart from that, though others who have been there in the last couple of days might be able to correct this information.

It may have been a test before the roadworks!

We have done that trip amny times - easy peasy every time even when it was bucketing down. 2wd with high clarance would have made it every time we were there

A mate was up there last weekend and here is comments--"As far as the Bloomfield track goes - We were up there last weekend, and I was really disappointed. The last "corkscrew" decline has now been concreted, and from there all the way through to Wujal Wujal has been graded as smooth as a baby's proverbial. We passed an Excel and a VK commodore, both going the other way, and neither looking like they had encountered any trouble whatsoever! The foliage seems to be a little thinner this year, and there were a couple of spots where we could see glimpses of the ocean. Previous years the trees have been much thicker, and you had basically no view."

Thanx Matto...

Grrr!!! Enjoy the trip....

We went that way abour 2 weeks ago and the partly concreted section was a problem. This partly completed section was very narrow and only suitable for one vehicle and as it was raining the other half of the road where they had been working was quite slippery and as a result we could only use the newly concreted section.

This was OK provided there were no other vehicles trying to come from the other end and because it was not possible to see both ends it was creating problems for the traffic. We were towing a camper trailer and there was no way you could back right down the hill without problems because of the steepness, length and narrowness of road.

We were lucky as a Hilux in front of us made some downhill traffic back up and gave us a clear run, but were were told of some who had vehicle damage because they had to get off the concrete and as a result caused considerable damage to their tyres etc.

Bummer!

Looks like the Bloomfield Track is now just another road.
I wonder if they will build a bridge over the causeway to complete the "desecration".

The notion that this thoroughfare be called a track ended in the early 80's when it became the Bloomfield Road.....seems like you missed the opportunity to complain by a whisker LOL
