Hi Fellow Forum Readers
We are heading off for 3 weeks to the Flinders Ranges/Wilpena Pound/Innamincka in September, 2010. We have now decided that since Lake Eyre has water we should sightsee Lake Eyre. We are departing from Melbourne, and would appreciate an itinerary.
We are travelling in a 2002 GU Patrol and towing a Jayco Expanda offroad. Any information and list of must do and see would be appreciated.
We off course will include a trip along the Sky Trek, great news to hear that it has now reopened.

Preferred trek : Melbourne/Mildura/Broken Hill/Tibooburra - not sure where to head from there, to The Dig Tree, Camerons corner then onto Innamincka and Lake Eyre
Both car and Caravan are well aquipped but we are travelling solo
This is the inaugral trip with planning now under way for a 12mth trip around Australia
So any tips tricks and advice will be invaluable to us

We did a very similar trip last year (we had 2 wks). As you have 3 wks, I suggest you also include say 2 days at lake Mungo, approx NE of Mildura, then across to Pooncarie then to Menindee and then over to Broken Hill.

We also did the Bore Track but I am not sure it is open yet.

Plus you can camp just near the Dig Tree as part of your fee to see the tree ($11 I recall), well worth while to camp so close to the historic site.

".....Camerons corner then onto Innamincka and Lake Eyre ...."
Not sure exactly what that means Guys.
Make sure you see whatever you can of the Lakes and the Cooper. Everything else will be there again next year....

Cheers,
Peter

Lake Eyre isn't close to Innamincka by road. You have to go through Marree to get to the access tracks? Also Tibooburra, dig tree, Cameron Corner, Innamincka is a big zig zag as the Dig Tree is quite close to Innamincka. I would do Tibooburra, CC, Innamincka (Inc dig tree) then down Strzelecki to either the Flinders or Marree. Mike

It's a hard choice.
I reckon I would go Cameron Corner, Innamincka, Cordillo Downs, Birdsville, ferry, Maree, William Creek/Halligan Bay.
Then if there is any time left, Muloorina, Flinders.
That ferry may NEVER run again....

Peter

Cordillo Downs road is closed I thought....it was 2 weeks ago. So is Walkers Crossing so a bit hard to get over to Birdsville. Not even sure you can get to Innamincka from the Dig Tree at the moment? You are right, its hard at the moment.

Crikey......
I guess what I am saying is forget the Flinders, forget the Dig Tree, forget Cameron Corner, (for now), unless they happen to be on the way to the 'main event'.
Concentrate on the water, the ferry, and Lake Eyre. These are maybe once a decade or maybe never again things.
