R.I.P. Jason Thomas Brown, our latest digger to lay down his life whilst serving in the ADF, on deployment, over there, trying to make this world a better place.

Too young, too soon, and never to taste all his country has to offer, whilst helping a foreign people to taste their's.

We salute you son, and embrace all of your family. We Will Remember You...
Lest We Forget.

From Your ADF Family.

Please don't interpret this post of mine as taking anything away from the job our armed forces are doing, wherever they are....

It's interesting the role the media and pollies play in today's armed conflicts. Australia has lost, I'm not sure, but less than 20 personnel in Afghanistan. The US has lost a lot more, not sure of the figures though.

Each time Australia loses a man over there we have considerable media attention given, including pollies showing how concerned and sorry they are, especially leading up to an election. The calls to get out of Afghanistan increase every time.

As a comparison, in times when there was a lot less media access, less instant news, less tv channels to fill up with content, there were considerably more armed forces personnel killed in action. For instance, in the Pacific, in WW2, the US lost 6000 (!!) men just on one island, Iwo Jima. Many many more on other little islands.

How long would a war last today with those figures?

How long would the public accept those results?

Especially against an enemy, as in Afghanistan, that believes death is better than life.

Hi GB,
Not being an expert on Military History, Im assuming that the wars fought up until Vietnam were based on two amassed armies going at each other like a bull at a gate.
Listening to a couple of Vietnam Vets at our club, that fight was a little different in that one couldn't always recognise the enemy. The Aussies sent men and the Yanks sent boys [poor buggers].

In Afghanistan we're fighting an army of loonies who don't abide by any rules of engagement, who hide behind women and children, who are impossible to spot amongst the general population.
Miss-guided fanatics.

A pat on the back for all our lads over there, look after each other and send each and every one of those turds back to their Allah.

Cheers.....Lionel.

I'm with you Gonebush, way too much publicity. I better shut up now before I upset too many people.

It would be interesting to take all the beer swilling, weekend brawling yobbos out of the pubs, slap a uniform on them and send them over there. Although most of them would wet their pants on the parade ground in front of the RSM, let alone in front of an insurgent.

I think, as a Nation, we need to crack a can of Harden Up and take a few very big swigs.

This is off topic, it has happened 18 times before and yes of course we are saddened and sympathetic to family and all concerned, without question.

This situation does not give cause for the rules to be bypassed and this thread will be locked.
