I bought a good running 1978 Type 75 Landcruiser (Troopy) from backpackers.
Its steering a little sideways, they said, they hit a hole on a dirt track.
I would like to find a mechanic around
Sydney who is able to see, if its only wheel alignment that has to be done, or if there is a part that has to be changed.
So Troopy experience is needed.
Does anybody no somebody or a honest workshop, that did lots of work with them?
thanks guys

Hi Chris,
First of all the 1978 landcruiser is a 45 series the 75 series started in late 1985.
Secondly is it just the steering wheel that is crooked or is it crabbing down the road. If it is crabbing, it will have loose / broken U bolts holding the diff on or a broken centre bolt on the spring pack.
Any mechanic should be able to eye the u bolts off in about 20 seconds. There will be scrape marks on
the springs if it is the bolt (from where the diff slides forward and back under acc or decelleration).
Cheers
Dave

hi Dave, thanks, thats a nice Coaster!
I mixed up the numbers, its a 87 Troopy, not quite that old.
Yes, you are right, I shouldn't assume the worst, maybe its just the U bolts.
I let somebody have a look and see what he says

Chris,
I have used HiTech 4wd in Penrith for work that I choose not to do myself. They seem knowledgeable and are happy to talk about options or possibilities before pulling things apart.
I have also heard that the chap in Seven Hills who is often referred to on this
forum is very good. I do not have first hand experience only from others.
It does sound like the hit has shifted the axle. A simple tape measure will tell you if the axles are parallel and in the right place.
good luck.

If the steering is 'wandering' a bit- could be worn spring shackle bushes. I changed ours to the teflon?? type material, and it made a huge difference.
