Looking at doing a trip to Tassie this coming Christmas holidays. While I can find plenty of info on attractions suitable for an adult, I can't seem to find much suitable for a 10yr old boy.
Anybody done this trip with kids? What did they enjoy?
Staying on tar as i'm not taking the Patrol.
On the same topic, I saw on one of those tourist shows, about an attraction where you are basically travelling through the tree tops on a flying fox. Any body know the name of this place so I can research it.

2 years ago we went with 2 other families and took 6 kids along. they had a ball.
Lots of walks to waterfalls.
Cataract gorge in
Launceston, ghost tours in
Port Arthur and
Hobart, Spiky bridge on the east coast , tazmazia south of
the nut at
Stanley as
well as
the Nut itself.
old steam train ride very close to if not in
Devonport.
Jet bout ride in
Huonville and treetop walk.
Too many things to mention but so much to do there that you will not have time to do it all.
We flew down and hired a mini bus with a trailer and were there for 3 weeks.

When you go to
Strahan and do the
gordon River cruise, when you get back the local drama club do a show all about the convicts that stole a boat and sailed off to South America. They ask for audience participation and it's a real hoot. Our daughter had a ball (she was 12 at the time). The
information centre will fill you in.
Also on the North West Coast look up Dismal Swamp. Great guided tours and a couple of huge slides down through the forest.

I have travelled Oz with my son [and daughter]... both were 10 years old at some stage!
I find it a bit strange to even bother to look for attractions... surely Tassie is the attraction?
My kids only ever had an 'attraction' to look forward to when we travelled towards the
Gold Coast on a couple of occasions. They weren't necessarily impressed by the theme parks. My son remembers us playing table tennis on a
park bench one night as the best part of one of those trips.... he may have been 11 that year.
My point is.... it's best if the kids and you go looking for fun and interesting stuff when you get there. Stop at anything interesting... ask around the town what there is to see and do. The stuff you pay for is often crass and less impressive.
Meanwhile.... [my son is 28 this year] I remember a fun haunted tour of the old courthouse in
Hobart... I have no idea if that is still there.
Have fun!

Many great ideas already. Don't forget fishing - both river and sea. Great beaches, beautiful forests and national parks.

He would probably enjoy the ABT railway trip,
Queenstown to
Strahan.
