Darwin to Cairns

Hi, after some advise please.
should we go
a)
cloncurry to
karumba and across to kennedy highway;
b)
hughenden up kennedy development and then highway;
c) charters towers up
gregory development, kennedy development and then highway or
d) onto
townsville and up the bruce?
we will be driving back down the east coast eventually to
sydney so option d is our least favourite but we are are travelling in an old hiace which will proabably influence this.

Ben,
with the old Hiace I would go from the Curry up to
Normanton and on to
Karumba if you want, then back to
Normanton and across to
Cairns or go to the Towers and up.
Both are good roads.
