I’ve never been into the Lower
Glenelg Nat
Park. What’s it like after Xmas.
Presuming it’s bursting at the seams in the 2 weeks after Xmas, is it easy to get a
camping spot for either a camper or a caravan after that?
What are the best vehicle based
camp sites?
Cheers

Also, what's the fishing like. What fish, and what bait, and where. Cheers again

Lots of fish and fishers. Bream mostly and mulloway. Probably mullet near the mouth if it is open. I am the last one to ask how and where to catch them though. Boat and bank fishing.
Only an hour away but have not camped there.
Look up Great South West Walk as it goes through the area.
Expect to see plenty there in January.

I used to work with a bloke who's been there a few times - he said you need to book a spot
well in advance with Nat Parks Vic - no point in going there otherwise - it'll be packed. Re fish - he said there are heaps of fish in the lower
Glenelg, but the small ones tear your bait up mostly before the big 'uns get to it - they used up a lot of pilchards in the process but got the occasional Mulloway keeper.

Jdwyn,
The area is a great place to relax & enjoy bush driving, beach and river scenery and small village life style. Of course in non peak times preferable. The fishing cxan be very good mostly at and close to the river mouth with only small bream
well up stream. The river is great for small boat and of course for canoes. Small caravan
park close to the store & pub and on other about 1 km away but still in the town of
Nelson. NP has lovely secluded
camping spots 3 - 4 sites only at some of them but right on the river and some with their own jetty. Other site are reserved for those canoing down stream. You can get camper trailers in & probably small vans (but check this) - you certainly need to book these sites
well ahead with NPs.
If you get there enjoy the solace of Picanny Ponds a few kms into SA.
Regards
Michael John (VIC)
