G'day all,
I want to connect up a dual battery system under the bonnet of my Prado & also run 4B&S wire to a 175amp anderson plug which goes to the towbar to connect to my camper trailer to charge it's battery.
Also would like a wire from the aux battery under the hood going to the cargo area to power my engel fridge.
I have most of the bits including a Projecta electronic isolator however not sure on the best configuration.

Would this be the best way:
Connect the Starting & Aux battery under the hood with the isolator in between.. Then run the wire from the Aux battery under the bonnet to the 175amp Anderson plug at the towbar.
Then tap into the back of the anderson plug & run a wire up to a socket which I could also use in the cargo area..

Cheers Don

Hi Don. There are quite a few older posts about this. This is one of them. Bob.

Your proposed configuration is sound enough with the following considerations.

1. Run both active and return 4B&S wiring from the auxiliary battery terminals seperately to both the anderson connector at the rear of your vehicle and the cargo area. The cargo area termination can be either a round Merit style 10 amp socket (good choice as a default standard) or a 50 amp Anderson connector.

2. Place an inline fuse on each active wire close to the battery end.

A 50 amp Anderson connector is more than sufficient for the trailer connection and is much more compact than a 175 amp connector.

A good diagram of an acceptable setup can be found in the Caravan & Camper Battery Charging article:

Hope that helps,

Also try the Traxide-tronics setup, the owner Tim is extremely helpful and his prices for the SC-40 and SC-80 are very competative. i have the SC-80 for the 2nd battery and anderson plug. Very easy to install yourself. www.traxide.com.au/
