Well finally Toyota have ditched the 15" rims on the SR5 Hilux only been about a decade late, but they seem to have gone straight to 17" rims no 16" option at this stage but a few more safety fetures and as advertised there is no increase in price, plus they have included traction control not sure what this means though if it is a locker or something else.

If anyone knows what traction control system they might use I would appreciate the feedback, additionally I have contacted RACQ regarding suspenesion upgrade and if this effects stability control with regards to insurance, I have been assured that there is no problem with altering the suspension once again if anyone has had any issues with stability control with their insurance let me know.

thanks in advance

As far as I know the traction control works with the ABS, as it detects wheelspin it applies the brakes to the spinning wheel allowing the opposite wheel to rotate.

Changing the suspension mildy will not effect traction control. Traction control is controlled by the engine management system and simply alters ignition and braking to allow the wheel or wheels to gain traction.

From Toyota:

Traction Control (TRC)System designed to maximise safety when accelerating on slippery road surfaces or when the available grip differs from one side of the vehicle to the other (such as when two wheels are on a gravel or grass verge). Operated by controlling the throttle and/or applying the brakes to any wheel that is slipping.

I have been running 17" wheels on my late model Hilux since day one and it is more sure footed however rides a little hard on certain surfaces, bigger tyres can do that, suspension changes to suit would be nice.

It's interesting timing just ready for the Sydney Motor Show. A new Lux is programmed for launch late 2011 at this stage. Not sure of configurations as yet
