The Tight Wad is me. I should have bought a new batt for the fliptop ages ago, after all it is an integral part of our lives accessing this and other sites and for travelling information.

The dead one was down to 5 minutes useful life each charge. After a year it had reduced from 2 hours to perhaps 40 minutes. I should have replaced it then, or perhaps earlier. For a miserable $80 delivered I've got a full two hours of useful charge. Why I let it get to two years old, well I'm dopey.

I won't make that mistake again. Penny wise, pound foolish as my old Nanna would have said.

Hi Besty, 2 hours are you running the lappy at full power??? I get up to four hours on battery, but then i have it set for what i need at the time.

Also do you leave it on charge for like long periods of time??? if you do, a tip is to unplug the lappy when charged and run battery down. my current battery has 4 years of use and it is starting to run down quicker than normal.

Hey, Don't worry i'm a tight wad too atm. Haven't got the money to do anything.

So your not alone.

Chris,

No idea if I'm running the fliptop at full power, I just turn it on. I'll try your tip of flattening it regularly, but I thought L-ion batts didn't suffer the memory effect.

The only thing I run at full power is the wife's XR6 Turbo, it needs a good spanking after she drives it like a Granny LOL.

Cheers,

Jim.

Jim,
forget about the lappy, lets talk about the XR6 turbo.

Lad had one that was screwed up, engine work, chipped, the best lowered suspension I have ever seen and then lets the old fossil give it some stick.

In that tune don't they get up and truck, low 12 sec for the 1/4, just hang on and you will never have to recharge again.

Have a good one

Ours is a stock BF which has about 200 kW at the rear wheels. My mechanic tells me for about $2500 he can get me to 270 at the rears. That's cheap horsepower. The wife is objecting at this stage, not about the money, rather she doesn't want it to go any faster. I'm working on her; I'll wear her down, I always do. I can outnag any woman.

His (the mechanic) is an FG with many mods and he had it dyno'd last week, 339 kW at the wheels.

My old acer battery used to last 1.5hrs when new and slowly degraded, I bought a new battery of ebay for $38 delivered and it lasts for four hours.

Hi Jim,

It's not only Laptop batteries that die.
I encountered a similar problem with the "non-replacable" battery in my Tomtom unit. Non-replacable as far as the Tomtom help and support section that is.

Just ordered, received and installed a replacement battery for a cost of around $50 and now Tomtom is back to a 4 hour capacity between charge. (if required)

I had a different problem with my laptop.
The bloody thing took forever to perform even a simple task and often froze while it was part way through an operation.
Reinstall the operating system was the suggestion, but for those of us who have added many programs and tweaks over the years, this is not a real option.

My solution. Upgrade to a new laptop with the latest operating system, etc. and gradually add the programs, devices and tweaks, bit by bit.
Almost there I am, except the Hema Navigator 5 refuses to be recognised by the new laptop. Bugga.........Something to do with the 64-bit version of Windows 7 I believe. The Hema folk are working on the problem.

Hi Jim,

I currently get 7 hours out of my battery down from 8 hours when new. Do you have different settings. I turn my wireless (WiFi) off and get better life.

Cheers Wilko
