Just received an e-mail from Nissan to attend the Motor Show on the 15th to the 24th of October to checkout the new Patrol with the 5.6 litre petrol V8, they say if we can't attend just e-mail them and they will send info ect, I wonder what dollars they will be compared to the Landcuisers, any body care to guess.

Cheers

I heard that there is a big demand for the new models in the Middle East.
So much so that the company is flat out making up the orders.
Meanwhile, South Africa doesn't want the new model, so Australia is the only country that want the right hand drive model.
Australia is such a small market, the right hand drive model might be 2 years away because of the demand for the LH drive model.

There is no price, and no diesel, Nissan will almost certainly never sell it in Australia.

There was an article in a motoring mag recently quoting the head of Nissan Australia. He sadi UK and South Africa don't want it, so that only leaves Australia for RHD and he said that isn't enough sales to get it tooled for RHD. The only 2 countries taking it are US and Middle East, and neither of them want diesel, so there is no diesel either.

It is at the Sydney show to try to drum up enough support to excite Nissan Japan, and Nissans official line seems to have softened lately from not much chance of it coming here, to some time late in 2011 or 2012 so they don't put people off completely.

So that leaves Nissan with a LDH, 5.6l petrol, IRS, IFS vehicle to sell in Australia. I predict the GU will be around for a loooong time yet.

You might get a good deal on a 20th aniversary edition GU yet.

I wonder if the 5.6 litre V8 could fit into the existing late model patrols?, I would be happy with one.

Interesting.

They could put that V8 in the GU

Dealer to buyer....

So sir, your power choices for your new 2011 GU are:

1)5.6L V8 Petrol with 300Kw and 571Nm coupled to a 7 speed auto with manual mode that gets 19l/100km

OR

2)The world famous 3.0l 4 cyl Diesel with 118kw and 380Nm coupled to a 4 speed auto that is only being made for Australia in it's CRD form.

Buyer to dealer....

Errrr...any other options?

Maybe they will re-incarnate the 4800 petrol for the new chassis boobook.

I have just returned from a running in 2500km trip with the new auto 4800 auto to Stockton and returned 13.6lt/100km which sort of shocked me a little as I haven't had a car that low for 8 years - but that leaves out the 29lt/100km thrash on the sand dunes.

Well the news I have had is there is no diesel coming. The price I believe is to be in competition to the Lexis and therefore will not have it's own little nitch as it does now. I am thinking of getting a new tow vehicle but my thoughts are that with the petrol V8 and the towing capability will see me bypass a vehicle I have loved to drive and explor0z with. Good luck Nissan because I believe the Australian travelling public will be looking elsewhere for a vehicle to compete with Toyota, problem now is, there are no vehicles to compete.

I have kept the GU as knock-about and will probably be on my second Disco for front line duties by the time an other Nissan comes thru. You are right, there are no vehicles to compete with Toyota, the Disco 4 is on a different level altogether, go drive one.

hi
from as far back as i can remember nissan have alway been extremely backward in introducing new models or upgrades to aus and hence nothing has changed and no wonder
why other brands have outsold nissan over many years
i think it's long overdue that nissan get some new sales management strategies or staff they always have negative reasons for their decisions
as imho they are on a self destruct future in aus
cheers

Mazcan it's not just Nissan. Anyone who thinks Aus. matters needs to get over themselves and buy the best available regardless of brand. Back in 2007 you could not get a cruiser and people were salivating over a so called 4 door Troopie. What a winner that was.

hi obt
i respect your comments but
i'm not in the market for any new vehicles
so have nothing to get over and would never salvitate over buying a new oneit just does not excite me that much a vehicle to me is just a convient way of moving around this big brown and sometimes green land of ours

and agree aus is a nothing really to the vehicles world sellers
they all seem to struggle to put a package together for aus conditions
we are really almost a dumping ground for whats left over if it suits there budget at the time
cheers

hi michael
it's selling like hot scones in the middle east and us

but with such a delayed release or non arrival in aus everyone in aus will have bought something else by the time nissan get there act together
just like years of there records of past releases
cheers

Well I suppose its official now..

"Nissan isn't really interested in building a real 4wd for Australian conditions."

Their failure to replace the 3litre TD years ago with a serious TD that produces usable grunt is evidence of their disinterest.

My understanding is you will be able to get them in the high 70's next year (petrol - no real info on the 3lt v6 diesel just yet for either chassis )

This was part of my equation in buying the last of the 4800 petrol GU's
