Who has knowledge of the Jeep Commander as a tow vehicle. It has a rated towing capacity of 3500 kgs but has anyone had experience with doing the job? Sorry I am talking about the 3 ltr 6 cyclinder turbo diesel.....

Hi Kerryman
Not sure what you intend towing. A good mate of
mine has one and tows a
Kimberley camper with no problems. He does a little bit of remote area touring so you could say that he has towed in all types of terrain.
Check out his private website www.users.tpg.com.au/klgreen
Hope this helps
Cheers Teza

Whilst I can’t speak for the specific vehicle type in this instance, you might want to check what the off-road towing capacity is for the vehicle as you may find it is less than the 3,500kg for on-road towing.

Friends of ours regularly tows his 24' full size van to Qld from Vic and reckons the diesel commander tows the van with ease. Even pretty pleased with the fuel consumption.

hi there, just came back from towing a 2500kg coromal offroad caravan around our great outback of australia. you can see our blog under "quincy" to see where we have been. i also towed the van on to fraser island last yr. i have placed a after market chip thus giving around 700 nm of pure torque. the commander is a pure towing machine, other 4wd guys not driving a jeep wouldn't agree thou. happy to chat off line if you want more info. tah chris

Hi Kerrymac,
I tow a 2000kg off road Lotus with a Grand Laredo with the same engine and it does it without a problem.
This is my second Grand Laredo (2006 & 2010)and both have been virtually out of the showroom and into a big trip covering such
places such as the
Warri gate road,
Birdsville and
Oodnadatta tracks.
The Jeep is the ultimate towing machine with excellent fuel economy. Your van is a bit heavier than
mine but I'm sure the Commander will handle it OK. I get figures between 13.5-17 litres/100km, usually averaging around 15.
You'll hear plenty of anti-Jeep stuff around but I'll stand by my Jeep's performance and reliability any time. I had a KJ Cherokee before the Laredos and it was equally as good.
Go for it!
