How much rain on Birdsville track? roads closed? Much more water to come down Co

Hi All again.

Just wondering how much rain has there been along the Birdsville track and if the roads are closed.

If there are closed i wonder how long before they will be re opened?

Also with all the rain around is there enough for renewed flows down the Cooper into lake Eyre?

Regards
GN

All depends on when you want to go. There was a lot of rain out there last night. SA Northern Roads

The Thompson / Barcoo River catchments have received from 100mm to more than 300mm in parts over the last month check it here , not to mention the rain band that passed over the area today...

Minor to moderate flooding occurring in the system as we speak, with some of it having already passed Windorah, & more on the way...

With most (if not all) of the country over which this water has to flow already at saturation point, my bet is that we can indeed expect to see renewed flows down the Cooper Creek....

Hi GN
As you can see from my link to the Transport SA Web site, the complete Birdsville Track is closed yet again. I think that this year would surely have to go do with some type of record for the number of times that the Track was closed due to the constant rain. I am still waiting for my Cooper Creek Ferry updates, but my contact has been on Annual Leave. Here is the link:

Your gumboots will need reshod by now.
The track was a bit messy when I came up last trip. Almost walked out of the Bloodstone's on the Oodnadatta engaging the hubs, and that was after waiting a day or three at Marla
Heh Have Fun Out There.

Hi Ruth,
If the weather remains dry how long would you expect the track to be closed?
Planning to be Farina on Wed. for a trip up
Thanks ,

Average district falls of around 1 -2 inches they never shut the track for more than 2 - 3 days we plan to be back on it by Wed. morn. weather looks good for a few days but there will be ponded water. Cliffton Hills to Cowarie turnoff is like Kakadu and has been for about 9 months. Car ferry is good for at least the next couple of months. There is no fresh flows in the Warburton expected but something is feeding the Lake still expecting it to be the Mucumba but will no more next month with a fly over due. Iit needs 25 feet of water to get over the causeway to feed the Cooper. Cooper holding at 4m.

Teraa, well done that is a truly good report. I had been wondering how much was still in the Cooper as well.
