Reading the thread on the 6 wheel caravan and how to reverse a turntable type trailer reminded me of this:

the Master Reverser

He is THE MAN.

He has done that two or three or four..... times before.... lol...!
Good driving....
That would not be possible with many trailer combinations because the trailer would be too long and the drawbar on the dolly too short. The combination he was driving was perfect for the job he was doing. Excellent stuff.

GB, maybe he has done that a few times before.

Look at the A frame, it's made so that he can get the drawbar parallel with the back of the truck. A normal shape A frame would not allow that sort of angle.

G'day Dave, I know you're someone with a bit of experience with trucks with a couple dozen or more wheels :-)))

Most truck and dog tipper drivers do that every day, they are pretty to watch.
They'll tip the truck and dog's load on the same heap by cleverly jack-knifing the rig until both are side by side and dump the load, often in very confined spaces.

G'day Fred, notice how slowly he reverses, and that's the main criteria.

If it starts to go the wrong way, you can stop and have another go before you get too far off line.

cheers

Hi all. You have to remember also that he is driving from the left hand side so it was all done with his mirror. Have to give him top marks for that one. It has just taken me 40 mins to get a new van out the front of my house and that is only reversing from the road. LOL Bob

Bet he hasn't got the current ADR regulated mirrors we now have to put up with. You know, the ones where the objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.
Ridiculous pieces of garbage IMO that are a safety hazard rather than aid.
I actually have a bit of a problem reversing into my driveway (which is straight) when attempting to use the reversing mirrors.

I keep promising myself to trace out the shape of mine and get a pair of normal flat mirror glass "blanks" made up to stick over the top of mine.

Hi Bill, those bloody things should be ilegal, and especially now as most are fitted to drivers side as well. Show me a truck that still doesnt have the normal mirrors for reversing then these other ones for showing wider view, alot of trucks these days have 3 mounted on passengers side. My wifes toyota yaris (what he hell for in a buz box) has these pathetic things on both sides, they are in my opinion dangerous and there is no warning on the mirrors either like our commodore use to have on passengers side, I reckon its half the reason people seem to chop other people up when changing lanes ?? What ever happened to looking over the shoulder. I know there are people out there who have neck problems and so forth who probably are not capable of turning their head to check fair enough but this should be an option (no extra charge) for people who may need them due to personal needs, same as the ones some people seem to fit to the rear view mirror this lot dont even think to use side mirrors either. And yes I have driven many semis so I know how to reverse Regards Steve M

hi all
i have those mongrel convex mirrors on my vw golf and
i wont change lanes until i can see the vehicle i'm overtaking in the interior center view mirror
90%% off merging accident imho would be caused by these stupid convex mirrors they give you the impression the other vehicle is quiet a distance behind to left or right
when in actuall fact it is right near the rear corner of yours
i believe the vehicle manufacturers introduced them to destroy more vehicles and keep the industry in business
cheers

Used to work in a warehouse years ago.
It was down a dead end street and the drivers had to make a 90 deg turn into the dock.
Some did it ok but others used to lock the trailer drawbar and back it like a normal trailer.

Watching those tyres trying to peel themselves off the rims was excruciating.

Cheers......Lionel.

Not a bad piece of backing, wonder how he would go doing the same with a semi and a dog.

Watching the road trains backing up to the unloading ramps at the old Midland sale yards made you appreciate the skills involved.

Having my morning cup of tea at Cocklebiddy one morning I stood and watched a guy break up a road train.

He backed into a space and unhooked the bogie and rear trailer. Then he drove forward and backed the front trailer into the remaining space.

When he finished he had to walk sideways to get between the trailers an the gap had been just wide enough to get the two trailers into. He did it first time, spot on. I was very impressed.

Just wish the boss's servere would let me see the video you are all talking about.
