Checked the Road reports on this site for outback NSW and 95% were closed. Rang the Council (taped report) which indicated a lot more were open than closed.

We are currently in Coffs Harbour and want to head West via Moree - Bourke - Tibooburra - Camerons Corner - Strzlecki Track to Lyndhurst.

Has any members any updated info on these routes?

We have 4x4 D-MAX with 18'off road (single axle) van.

TIA

Hi Mal
We will be heading that way today week.
The best road conditions report is the RTA site then click on the local council icons and they will give you an updated date and that date is usually the current date.

tks pinko

we were supposed to leave here yesterday but waiting for an ëxpress" parcel (which we have tracked to be delivered today - 4pm they tell us).

K&N Filter for the D-MAX - I want to fit it before departing. Ordered it in Gympie - had to be ordered from Sydney, they were to send it to CH but instead sent it to Gympie who then put it in express satchel to CH last Tuesday.

SWMBO and I met each other at Olive Downs Stn in 1964 - nostalgic trip for us.

Hope to catch you along the traps.

Hi
I wouldn't be fitting a K&N filter and then go driving around on dirt roads
K&N filters may be allright on bitumen but an oily filter on dirt and dusty roads is a recipie for disaster. Far better to keep a paper filter for dirt road travel and then change to a K&N on your return. Just my thoughts. Have an enjoyable and safe trip.
I went from Wanarring to Camerons Corner late September and the road was
chopped up and wet in places but quite ok. Tibaburra police would be a good source for a road update.

Cheers Teza

Hi Tezza

Point taken with the K&N filter ... It arrived at 1pm today so we managed to get away at 2pm and into Glen Innes at 5pm. Tomorrow we should make Bourke.

Managed to utilise the time waiting for above and email Tibooburra Hotel. Here is the answer ....

I have had a look at the road reports and at present the road from Bourke to us here is open. I'm not sure of the condition as we have not had anyone in the hotel to let us know what it is like. My guess would be that there would be some rutting and possible some wet spots Normally there is a detour around water and it may not be where the water is it may be back further on the road. I'm not sure what sort of car you have but if you drive to the conditions of the road and not the length you should be OK. Fuel at Wannaring is very limited so don't rely on it carry fuel if your can't go 400klms as that is the distance from Bourke to here. We look forward to meeting you and I hope you wont be disappointed in Olive Downs of today.

Hope to be in Tibooburra Hotel for dinner Sunday night.

Camped at Cato Bridge last night. Light rain all night. Headed for Bourke and into the black clouds. Checked with Police this morning - Tibooburra Road CLOSED.

Spoke to a guy with a Nissan pathfinder and camping trailer that came through yesterday and he said the road Tibooburra to Wanaaring was OK but from there to Bourke was a slippery as ..... sliding all over the place and real scary at times. He was following the rain clouds through ....

So here we are sitting in the caravan park just smelling the roses for at least 24 hours. Will see what tomorrow brings.

Stayed at Bourke for 24 hours smelling the roses - well taking photos of them - waiting for the road to Tibooburra to dry out a bit. ~3.15pm a tropical NQ storm hit the place - luckily we heard the wind roaring and managed to batten down the hatches JUST in time.

Took off at 8.30 this morning and into Tibooburra at ~3.30pm. A couple of cars had been through yesterday which really mushed the road up in places. All in all - in another 24 hours it will be back to dust again ..... Good road, no problems (even in two wheel drive).

Pulled into Tib with about three inches of mud hanging off each side at the front of the van. Found a small water leak dripping onto the road. On investigation both front tanks had snapped the fitting that screws into the tank - lost all that water. Luckily I had the third (back) tank segregated by taps so I could run with 1, 2 or 3 full tanks. (mental note to self .... put a guard plate over these fittings so they don't get knocked off by rocks in future).

end of thread for me ....
