Dear all,
In 2008, 4 mates managed to get away together for 18 nights and did a trip from
Sydney to
Cape york! Next year we all turn 40 and plan to do a similar trip for 20 days and need a new destination.
If you have been to the pennefarther river you will know the sort of destinations we are looking for. Quiet, beautiful, full of fish easily catchable from land!
We are considering a trip to the gulf area but with such a short time frame we really need to know where we are going and what we will find there.
Can anyone please recommend
places in the gulf (or elsewhere) that would suit our dreams!
Cheers
Dave

Karumba.......
Normanton ....
Burketown ...
Lawn Hill ... Kingfisher Gorge
I dont know the "Pennefarther River" so i am not sure of what you are looking for..
You have 4wds i will assume, do you want to tent or do you have campers, how far from a pub can you be (might be funny question for some but for me it does count) ...
I am in
Doomadgee and may be able to assist in pointing you where you want to go...
What time of the year do you plan to travel
Cheers

Thanks Joe,
We are going in august/sept trying to avoid school holidays.
What are the must see points along the
Savannah way?
We will be fully self sufficient off road for upto a week away from civilisation as long as we can carry enough beer!!

Hi Dave .....
As you are going next year send us an e-mail joeandmelissa@bigpond.com and i will send you info closer to the date...
We have done a bit to our fourby over the last few months and will be getting out as much as we can and will take heaps of pics and notes and if i get time will set up a "blog" on this site on our exploring so others can come up and see it all .......... all with 3 kids, 3/7/9 .....
The "Savannah Way" goes from coast (East) to coast (West) so is a big "road" to explore, we will be "exploring" in a radias of about 150klms of
Doomadgee and will take in
Burketown,
Gregory Downs,
Lawn Hill, Kingfisher
Camp, Hells
Gate to the border of NT/QLD and up to the coast to and around Old
Doomadgee ..... and we like the odd beer also so will be factoring that in as we always do :-)
Cheers, Joe

Camp in a swag on an Island off
Dampier (W.A.) - that is where we are having our boys trip for a week in 2011..... Plenty of fish, crays, diving, no other people - or kids!, heaps of beer, bacon and egg burgers each morning, no salads, etc....
