I fitted one in our motor home a year ago. Have always had GME on the farm but find the Oricom OK. When scanning it does not pause on an receiving station as long as I have been used to with GME. Seem to have got used to it now with no problem.

I would hold off on a new radio just now

On January 1st the ACMA is expanding UHF CB from 40 channels to 80

Oricom radios are not upgradeable to the new standard which will make it obsolete before the end of its lifespan

Yes it will still be ok after Jan 1st but in a few years there will be noticeable differences

There is a heap of info on the UHF CB and the upcoming changes on our website

www.uhfcb.com.au

Hope this helps

Interestingly I rang the company and they didn't seem to have any knowledge at all about the changes to the UHF CB frequency settings about to happen .
When I pushed the person for further information she said the radios would transmit on any frequency .

We have had discussions with their national sales manager for their UHF CB Range only a few days ago where he informed me that they were not upgradeable and that they were looking at a trade in scheme next year

It sounds as though the person you may have spoken to has very limited knowledge of the UHF CB range with a statement of it "will transmit on any frequency" sounds to me like they wanted to end the phone call because that statement says to me that I could program it to VHF, Airband all the UHF freq ect

I am not questioning what you are saying just the knowledge of the phone operator you encountered because if that person has no idea about next years changes and limited product knowledge how can they provide anyone with accurate information

From 2013, EVERY existing 40/38 channel UHF CB will be illegal to use, because they are wideband and will take up 3 of the new channels - e.g. Ch 10 will transmit over 9A, 10 and 10A.

You will only be allowed to use narrowband radios, which won't be available for some time - unless you buy a radio with programmable channels that can do Narrowband now.

Of course manufacturers don't want you to know about it - they still need to sell off radios that are in stock and rolling off the production line.
