I have a Kakadu cruiser with leather seats. I realy like the leather but for the convenience of day to day use . . Lam thinking of lambs wool covers to keep the leather clean and in good condition . This sort of defeats the purpose of the leather. Is their and problems with seat covers on leather seats. Should i use a good leather cream . Any suggestions welcome

I know what you mean. Leather seats really aren't good in cars, let alone 4wds. We have leather in the wife's car and decided on sheepskin covers. Supacheap have regular sales on seatcovers and there are good deals on their better quality lines. It is tempting to get vynal covers to protect the leather.
Years ago Mercedes did a lot of work on seat materials and decided that plastic based materials with texture were the best, but they lost so many sales that they eventually caved in and offered leather.
If you have exposed leather, it needs a leather cream/uv protection etc

hi, i am not sure any seat covers will keep the leather clean and in good condition unless you regularly remove them and clean the crud that manages to get through and also renourish the leather before refitting the covers. I think if you get the wrong type seat cover you could do more harm with it rubbing away at the leather surface.

" for the convenience of day to day use . . " not sure what you exactly mean? Do you mean sometimes the seats are hot from sitting in sun? If so do what we do, keep a couple good quality thick towels in select colour to match trim in the car. Easy to sit on if seats are hot, if someone is dirty or just to cover them if you want. That way you get to enjoy the luxurious leather most of the time and have a back up for other times.

I know of people that go boating that are either thankful they have the leather or wish they had it. Seems to be the answer for when they [and their kids etc] get out all wet. Just wipe over leather to dry it and air it if need be. And, Yes buy a good quality leather cream etc to keep it looking good, just like you would for the outside - cheers

hi pradoz
the worst thing you can do to a leather seat is sit on it in salty wet clothes this will dry the leather out and it will deteriate and crack in a very short time span
genuine lamb skin seat covers will not hurt a leather seatand are very comfy and cool in summer and warm in winter as its a natural fibre
cheers

We don't have leather seats, just velour, but when we go on extended trips where it it likely there will be more mess than usual brought into the car, we cover our seats with very large towels. We usually use a large safety (nappy) pin to keep them around the headrest. Easy to take off and wash and doubt they would do any damage to leather. Simple, inexpensive and works well for us. We use the same for the two lounges in the caravan so we don't have to be always concerned about getting those messy.

hey david, mate i have leather seats in my patrol and was faced with the same dilemma as yourself. what i did, because the lambs wool seats don't really suit as i tend to get a little grubby from time to time, i got a canvas type throw over seat cover and had my wife sew a few layers of flannelette sheet to the underside so it is softish against the leather. every second time i wash the cars i do the inside, leather too. easy to wash both seat cover and leather seats. just an idea for ya mate, good luck.

Yeah, I'd be wary of grit getting under seat covers and abrading the leather.

Once had a Camry with leather and it was high maintenance, as has been posted.

What ever you decide do not spray Armour-All on leather seats for protection, my dopey off-siders thought they would give my truck a you-beaut 100% clean before boss gets back from hollies.

Well, needless to say, when I came upon the first set of traffic lights and put foot on brake-pedal, off I went, down under the dashboard, with my hands still on steering wheel and truck driving through intersection, with people thinking, theres no-one driving the truck, because I'm on the floor,

A rag and turps fixed the problem
