Best Off Road
These clowns are the same wherever you go. Everything is such a rush.
They've got to be first on the plane. Why? They're not going to get a better
seat, it's already been allocated. And frankly, who wants to sit in a plane
seat any longer than they need to?
Then the big bird lands. Out of their seats in seconds, to be first off to stand at an empty luggage carousel waiting 15 minutes for their bags to arrive.
They used to annoy me, but these days I enjoy the entertainment.
Jim.

they get to be first on the plane because their not smokers hanging about out the front trying to drag down 2 hours of ciggies in the final 30 seconds before boarding, then holding the plane up as they call them up (tiger have the right idea - tell em to catch the next flight)
and when the plane lands with no checked baggage its straight out the fron to an empty taxi stand NOT luggage carrasell and back home where you belong

The reason they have no checked luggage is cos they put 25 kilos in the overhead locker!
They are the people who really annoy me and I wish airlines would do something abt them.
Best i saw was a few months ago at Heathrow a
young bloke walking arouind with a bubble wrapped 22inch Apple Mac screen as his carry on.
Cheers

Gidday
I know what the rules say you can carry but have a look at what some people actually take and have a guess what it weighs ... I have seen small suitcases with
wheels!
And a fullsize screen for a desktop is much bigger and heavier than a laptop. i wouldn't want to be sitting under that locker when it burst open in some turbulence and the contents fell out... even if it was bubble wrapped!

Yeh, the carry-on limits are
well publicised for both weight and dimensions, but there are some passengers who still push the rules beyond the limits. I was in a boarding queue, and a woman in front with a very large child pusher was about to board with it. She was most upset when told it was too big, and since baggage check-in had closed, it would have to go on the next flight. I can understand the inconvenience it was going to cause to her, esp carrying a small kid, but surely she must have given some thought to it before boarding.

I recently flew from Kamchatka to Moscow. Lots of people had frozen salmon, bubble wrapped, as their carry on luggage.

Hi BOF,
I do understand what you are saying and don't disagree.
As some one that flys nearly every week for work I would ask that you see it from our perspective. I don't carry checkin as I can not afford to loose my bag. This does happen and if you are working and only there for a day or two you carry what you need. I get in the plan early to beat people that stumble through carring the lifes belongings and procrastinat about where they will sit (even with a assigned ticket)
As for when you get to the other end! Some airport like Xiamen, Hong Kong,
Sydney etc set up a obstical course that must be successfully completed if you want to catch your next flight. More than once I have missed a conecting flight by a few minutes.
Last is I have a wife and two daughters at home and as stated I work away alot, on landing I can not get home quick enough and yes I run for the
gate.

Best of Road,
I've flown for years ( my father was a commercial pilot) and he always mentioned too take my time and let the other passengers board. I agree people are always in a rush. However I was lucky traveling up the front throughout the 90's (first or business class) for many years and it didn't matter if I was first or last on board. I wasn't a full fare paying customer cause of dad I was classified as 'staff'.
Yes I was fortunate but never I abused it or staff cause dad would come down on me like a tonne of bricks. I Never get drunk albeit I was a teenager or was rude to other passengers!
I believe that the elderly and children (families) should and are allowed first be on first but I still see people rushing on. The aircraft has a scheduled time of departure it ain't leaving earlier.
Anyone flown on the A380??
I thought it would be a pain for boarding due to it's passenger capacity but I remember that it was easy going.
I'm now a Fly In Fly Outer of the
Pilbara and these flights on arrival everyone leaves the aircraft in an orderly fashion. I've never seen this before but it works!!
By the way I'm off to England for Xmas and I'll think of this post and see what it's like. The human race is getting selfish!!
cheers

LOL
yea i FIFO and its the same with the bus everyone waits there turn
when i catch a domestic flight and it becomes everyman for himself it comes as a surprise
as someone mentioned above it doesnt work so
well for domestic flights coz not everones on the same page
youve got people trying to get a dozen different things out of overhead lockers, mum trying to get out with 4 kids, the elderly who barely made it on in the first place, people who couldnt care when they get off etc
where as in a FIFO plane those in front of you are just as dedicated to getting off as quickly as possible as you are so it works

Hi Matthew,
I have flown the A380 several times now to the USA. Boarding is about the same time as they have gangways to both decks, but waiting for the luggage is the killer. At LAX they even spread you luggage over two carousals and you can rest assured it will be on the other one, regardless of what they say on the PA :(
But I will choose my flights to be on the A380, a much nicer and smoother plane. The real advantage is how quiet it is, makes the noise cancelling headphones redundant, unlike on a 747.
Cheers

Captain,
My father flew on the A310 first then the 747 whilst at SQ for 12 years. He is now retired since 2005 i think?
Yes I was amazed with the A380 soooo quiet and they have really thought about the ergonomics of the interior.
Well impressed!!! That was with SQ in 2007/08 I think from Heathrow.
But I do rate the 747 as a long haul aircraft.
This time I'm flying with Emirates (good airline) and only one sector is flown on the A380. Pity really
I'm waiting for the 787 Dreamliner to come into service. Wait and see...

I fly the LAX - SYD route every couple of months either on the A380 or 747.
The A380 is a nice quiet plane........too quiet sometimes. I've had some inner ear problems flying on them and now have to wear earplugs.
Have a couple of gripes about it though:
1. it is slower than the jumbo by about an hour usually between LAX and
Sydney with the return flight up to 16 hours now.
2. If you are in a window
seat the window is about 20-25 cm from the
seat so you can't put a pillow against the wall.
Good points are that the seats are better as the
seat goes forward a bit when you recline.
In economy Qantas now charges for exit row seats but in economy the best seats are row 80 A or K
Premium Economy is great if you can get it on sale but Business is just too expensive for me at around $8,000 return. Nice for an upgrade if you can get it.

Ah, but quiet is soon to end when the airlines agree to let passengers use mobile phones. Just consider 14 hours of cretinious chatter from your
seat-mate. Every flight will need to carry a proctologist if these people want their phones back.
Cheers, Tony

Living in S.E. Asia and being in the aviation business I fly regionally several times a week. I am usually first to board and first off as I am in First Class. I only have hand carry baggage unless I am on a long trip. I think people rush to board as there is frequently not enough baggage space in the overhead
bins. I can't think of any other reason to rush.
I frequently fly the SQ A380 between Singapore and
Sydney. It is indeed a lovely aircraft but you pay a premium to fly it on most SQ
routes so if the schedule allows, I take the 777 which is also a great flight.
I am sure you have heard what happened to the QF A380 climbing out of Singapore this morning. Blew an engine big time and took all the rear engine cowling with it.

Agree - what a laugh watching these clowns rushing to get on board - trying to push in front of disabled, aged and parents with babies and
young children, for what? The only logical reason I can see for wanting to board before others is so that I can get some over head luggage space because of all the annoying "non check in luggage" people that carry way oversize cases onto the plane and attempt to jam them in the overhead locker - leaving no room for my small laptop bag!!! Still I would still be too embarrassed to push and shove my way to the front! My only revenge is at the end of the flight when I get to laught at the guy who wacks his head on the overhead locker as he attempts to be the first to stand up!!!

this prob sounds racist but when you talk of people pushing their way to the front are you talking international flights and asian people?
it seems waiting your turn is seen as a sighn of weaness in those countries
I used to work in a very busy butcher
shop in a multicultural area and it was common when asking whos next to have an asian try and push past from the back screaming me me
seems strange to us but thats the way they do it over there i guess

No I certainly was not directing my comments at any particular race or age group. Infact,
mine was intended a light hearted attack only. Infact the worse offenders are the FIFO workers, of which I am one! (a FIFO worker not large carry on luggager!!!) But I guess I do understand why they don't like to
check in anything as it would streamline the process a bit.
