I recently travelled by tinnie along the Murray from
Wentworth to
Berri. On the Rufus River (between the Murray near Lock 7 and
Lake Victoria) there is a large compound of cyclone and barb and another within of iron sheeting. It includes a landing on the river and the whole thing is in environmental green colouring, including the cyclone mesh. Obviously a fair bit of money spent, no signs to say what it is. Does anyone know?

Hi Frank
It would have been magic coming down the River, that area is a favourite of ours. I could be wrong, but it sounds like a special place of Aboriginal significance and is a way of keeping unwanted people out, as I have seen similar
places like that out on
Lindsay Island and north of
Renmark.
Cheers
Stephen

Thanks for your thoughts, and Scrubby, it was suggested we were boat people while on the trip, but there was no welcome mat. Stephen, I haven't seen anything quite like this elsewhere, and I have kayaked, mountain biked and 4wd all over the creeks and islands on the Murray as I live in the area. I will make some enquiries with those who may know.

G'Day Frank, I do have an answer for you on the Rufus River structure you asked about. It is part of a number of Riverfront Holiday Accommodation properties that the firm I work for is undertaking along both the Mighty
Murray River & Majestic
Darling River. Please check out our website www.murraydarlingriverholidays.com for some ideal private, pristine and remote locations for a relaxing holiday away from all the hustle & bustle of crowded built-up areas of the two rivers.
You would have passed
Lock 9 Lodge 200 metres upstream from
lock 9 itself; the next property was ten kilometres upstream from lock 7, called Elphicks Island Lodge (yes, it is actually on an island in the river), then the next one under construction along banks of the Rufus River, then the next is twenty kilometres downstream from lock 7 called
Lake Victoria Station Lodge, just magnificent (7 bedrooms & 5 Bathrooms), then the next a further eight kilometres downsream called Nampoo Station adjacent the Devil's Elbow cliffs on N.S.W. side and sandbar on Victorian side in mallee Sunset National
Park.
Any members who might want a week away without towing a van for a small group of between six to fifteen people, please contact me for great location at reasonable prices. linden 0427 502 664
